Entertaining Homer

Poor Homer is in Covid isolation with Hubby and me. He was very good yesterday but today he's getting a bit restless. He'll go to his dog walker on Monday.
I used to have some Nina Olsen puzzles for Homer but Hubby threw them out.šŸ˜– So I've given Hubby the task of entertaining Homer, which is not going well as Hubby's idea of entertaining Homer is sitting on the sofa re watching All the Winter Olympics on catch up TV.

Any easy inside games he can play with Homer. Apart from "find it".

I put a few of Maxx's toys from his toybox out on the rug and call out 'fetch your xxxxx' and he goes and hunts whatever I have asked for. He often gets it wrong but when he goes to get the wrong toy I say 'not that one' until he finds the right toy and I say 'YES!' loudly and happily. He then has to bring it back and drop it in the toy box to get his (high value) treat. It took some time, but we both had fun learning the game and now he loves it

My go-to with Snowie when heā€™s restless but Iā€™m about to go into a meeting is a small bowl smeared with peanut butter, which he licks out. I confess to ā€œsedatingā€ Snowie with food when Iā€™m busy. I also make him wait on his bed and then make a trail of treats (his favourite are bits of bread!) through the kitchen. In hard lockdown we did a lot of front paws up on a box (I used a big Tupperware box) and then he had to stretch forwards, up, sideways, down for a treat, and pivot. These were actually his physio exercises! Also, Iā€™d sit on the steps and then he had to put one paw on my knee. Then the other pawā€”Iā€™d indicate with my hand which paw.

Good luck!! Not easy!

We all came up with this great list from the summer challenge a couple of years ago that might help.

With Kipper, it does tend to be quick ā€˜find itā€™ games for the working day, plus
kibble in an egg box
Towel with treats rolled up in it and tied in a knot
Kong Wobbler/Spinner with kibble inside
Sit on the floor with him for ten minutes and do some gentle massage (if heā€™s in the mood!)
