?Infection

Vets think Harley has an infection in her hock as it is swollen and hot to touch. She’s on antibiotics, doggy paracewith codine and metacam. We have to go back next Thursday to check that things are improving.
She’s struggling to walk and her front left paw which is where arthritis is the worst is also swollen as she’s putting pressure on her front legs when walking.
It’s so sad to watch 😢

There is 'septic arthritis' but as your dog is already on antibiotics she should be ok.

Sorry to hear. I’m sure she’ll feel much better when the antibiotics kick in. Could it be a grass seed? (Or wrong season?)

That sounds really painful for poor Harley and it must be so upsetting for you too.
Sending :thelambiesarecoming: for her and:hug:for you and hoping the antibiotics clear it up soon.

Trying go to get the tablets into her isn’t working. Last night they were crushed into her tea and she ate it. This morning we crushed them in her breakfast which has sat untouched for the past 45 minutes.
How frustrating, poor Harley.
*egg sucking alert* Is it possible to wrap them in e.g. cheese? If she’s suspicious or not keen on just popping it in, you might line up 8 or 10 small pieces of cheese, make the pill number 6, and then stream them into her. Hopefully she just thinks yum and gobbles down everything.

@Naya , is it possible to have a phone consultation with the vet? Maybe they would highlight which med is the most important (probably abs) and to find a way to get it into her?

I'm only thinking that meds do have side effects like nausea etc, which may be counter productive.

I can't take para/codeine mixes myself -- just reading about it brings back the dizziness, nausea and constipation that I experienced, worse than the pain I had them for!

Of course this may not be so for Harley.

just tried this and she sniffed the first piece (which didn’t have one in) and walked away 😢

The thing that always works with Joy is mashed sardine. I hide the tablets in these (it involves getting fishy fingers, but it's worth it) then mix this with a small amount of her usual kibble in her bowl. I then make 'Ooooh! Lucky Joy, special tea/breakfast/whatever noises and it's all gone in a matter of seconds, tablets included.
I hope you can find a way to persuade Harley to take them and that she's better soon.

Rourke is taking his antibiotics well, large pink ones. I have some Forthglade soft food, give him one teaspoonful of that which he takes off the spoon, next spoonful has tablet in it, then follow with another teaspoon of the food, try that.
