Maxx is unwell

Poor Maxx isn't well. He vomited a couple of times in the two days after we picked him up from the kennels but we put it down to transitioning from their food back to ours. He was vomit-free for the next few days but definitely lethargic. Last night he vomited twice so he's off to the vets as soon as Steve can get an appointment this morning. We will look at some other options rather than the kennels for him for our big trip this year but we don't have many sadly

Poor lad. Don't you have house sittings down under, who would look after Max too  or a very good friend x

Lilly has also been under the weather so feel your pain.
Didn't eat her brekkie on Friday.
Took some encouragement.
I had her on chappie for a couple meals, added in some kibble, but not wanting to eat out her bowl. I've had to pause all her "additions " and disguise paracetamol in cheese.
Thankfully not sick but absolutely foul farts and some very loose poop (though that could be the chappie.

I think Lilly is a bit better today.

Hope Maxx is OK,

Poor Maxx, that’s miserable for him and you. Being sick is so horrible for them. Hopefully the vet can sort him out quickly and you’ll all have a chance to settle and recover from the sickness. Best of luck with finding alternatives, hopefully the right solution is just round the corner :fingers::hug:

So sorry to read this. Poor Maxx. With vomiting, I try to get a lot of liquids in—to prevent dehydration, and also to get whatever is in his gut to move along and out the other end. So, I shred a little roast chicken in a bowl water for Snowie. Only way to get him to drink a lot of water.

I hope Maxx feels better soon.

Thanks everyone

Poor Steve had to wait 50 minutes past his appointment time as the vet was crazy busy. Our vet is still closed for Xmas holidays and I suspect some of the other smaller ones are too. So he had to go to the big vet hospital and there were pets and people everywhere.

The vet said he didn't look like a dog who felt sick - in reference to him bouncing off the walls of the waiting room, barking, having an instant love affair with another yellow lab called Jess and nosing the nurses hand for treats every time she walked past 🤨

He said she examined him thoroughly and is sure it's a bit of a bug as if it were a blockage he'd be vomiting all the time. He's got some antacids and has to have 4 small bland meals of steamed chicken and rice or sweet potato per day for a few days. He didn't vomit today so hopefully he's on the mend

I've started looking at pet/house sitter websites but with the pool it gets complicated and Steve is paranoid about safety and strangers. We shall see. We have good friends who adored our first dog and looked after him every time we went away. However Maxx is a totally different dog and while Bensin was ok with not going into their house, that wouldn't work with Maxx.

I hope Lily is ok soon @Jacqui-S 😞

This sounds promising for Maxx’s sickness @Lab_adore , fingers crossed he continues to stabilize and feel better.
The pet sitting/kennels conundrum is really tricky and I sympathize entirely. We’d never have someone staying in our current house as it’s a tip and we don’t have space, plus it gives my OH proper heebiejeebies. I have heard people having surprising success with asking their local trusted vet practice if any staff would be interested in house & dog sitting - particularly one of the vet nurses might be interested in a ‘holiday with pay’, and if you like them they’re often a safer pair of hands and more of a known quantity than some.

Oh the pet sitting thing is so tricky.

@Lab_adore we had luck with madpaws.com.au and were able to find lovely local woman that took Ella a couple of times. She was able to stay in her house and sleep on any human couch or bed that she chose (apparently she chose to wedge herself in the middle of their bed 😆).

Ella wasn't 100% happy but it was better than kennels for her. Now we're super lucky as our babysitter (one of the educators from our childcare - we've know her for 7yrs and she practically family now) house sits for us and we pay her the same fee as we'd paid the sitter. Ella is super happy and our sitter is too as she's saving for a house so really happy for the extra cash.

This is good news. Hope Maxx continues to improve.

Gentle hugs to Maxx and @Jacqui-S 's Lilly. I'm glad to hear that Maxx seems on the mend.

The pet sitting thing does indeed sound very tricky. An ex-work colleague/friend here in the UK has used house sitters twice now. Both times she's felt a bit squidgey about the whole thing, and both times it's worked out very well. But it is a leap of faith each time and I'd be the same as Steve.

Glad to hear that Maxx is on the up. Loved how he behaved at the vet! 🥰 Labs are often trusted to make the vet’s a happy fun place!

@Jacqui-S sorry to read about Lily. I hope she feels better soon. xxx
