Recall challenge

We did this 2 years ago and it helped me shake things up with Hunter. I think I have got boring during our walks so I am doing it again to get ourselves more engaged during walks.

Yep, it was really good. Definitely some good ideas to shake things up, as you say.,-- "this way" was quite a gamechanger for us! So simple but very effective.

These days Cass is not so gungho, she doesn't really want exercise for exercise sake. It's great to have different games and things to do with her outside. Unless it is a really good hunty scenty day that is.

As Hunter has reduced walks for his joints I have to keep his mind active otherwise a not tired dog. He loved it on holiday with the overload of new smells and rabbit pooh! Coming back home made me realise I need to make a short suburban walk more fun. This will help get us back on track.

I signed up for this for three years and always felt super guilty as I never followed through with the whole course. It's always at the same time of year that we're moving from the UK to somewhere else, which is a big factor in why I lose the plot every time. This year I sadly admitted that I'd do the same darn thing (enthusiastically sign up and then disappear after the first session) so made the decision not to enrol. The guilt is real because Carbón really, really needs this.

I'd love to hear how you who signed up for it are all doing, though. 😊

I only signed up for a refresher, the games are so simple and effective it's just worth having them in one's armoury, so to speak. Cassies's recall is pretty good - my main problem being her self rewarding from the ground.(aka scavenging!)
My main focus right now is "leave it" when out and about. Things like "this way" really help when in the danger zone!

Makes me feel lazy. Rourke and I walk in fields and woods, and apart from him coming back to check where I am and which way we are going, he just gets on with is own exploring and sniffing. In the morning shorter walk, he likes to carry a tennis ball and then puts it down when I don't notice, appears in front of me with "go on, send me back to fetch it'.
