Teaching nail trimming. (dog wants to eat the trimmers)

Any suggestions/modifications to the plan for teaching Trixie to leat me cut her nails? She doesn't mind her paws handled...we've done that since she was young, and apart from a bit after a paw injury, she's been good having them held.

The issue is this: She thinks the trimmers are a new and interesting toy. And she wants to eat them!

So I've got her lap(sort of) with her paw held in my hand, (and she's not pulling away) and she's wagging away and trying to eat the trimmers. I can't get them close to her paws.

Maisy hates this since I cut too much off one claw and blood spurted everywhere (she flinched just as I cut).
However, I have found that when she is on her back , legs akimbo and up for a tummy-rub, my friend does the rubbing and I can cut the claws, she doesn't seem to mind that. If you approach from behind out of eyeline, that helps.
