The Ballad of Maja and Carbón

I have never taken to Chi (can't spell it!). However I was helping at a dog test and there was a little black one there and I fell in love immediately, I could have happily taken him home. I wonder If Maja had problems with the black Labrador she grew up with, maybe it bossed her about and she has held a grudge ever since?

She looks like the many cats I’ve known who invitingly bare their tummies at you and then scratch your face off if you dare try to touch it. :hungover:
I can very much sympathize with the cat thing - I’m afraid to touch any cat, for any reason, based on similar experiences! 😬

To do Maja justice, she only play-bites with me. All she wants when she’s on her back - really 😆 - is a tummy rub. When she’s mad at me, she snarls like a wee beastie, but it seems her puppy vampire lust for human blood burned itself out on her poor human.

Maja had a very big and stimulating day yesterday and got exponentially worse with Carbón. This was interesting to me, because I would have thought that it would have tried her out and mellowed her out (“A tired dog is a good dog”) but instead it was more like dealing with a toddler significantly past their bedtime.

This was true even this morning after a good night’s sleep, breakfast, a walk, and a wee and a poo. In theory she should have had every endorphin working for her, but she has been an absolute terror. The expression ‘bouncing off the walls” is an accurate visual.

So I’ve taken her to her own apartment and am spending some quiet time with her here. Of course that means Carbón also gets some quiet time back at our apartment. Hopefully she will be a little more even-keeled by the time we go back to my place.

That’s a lovely photo of her, little baby. What a trying 48 hours you’ve had, that sounds hard - but also interesting, huh? My basic (obvious?) reading of that might be that her tiny stress bucket filled up over the big and stimulating day and had trouble draining away, even over several hours and - as you say - all the basics taken care of. Your chill out plans sound perfect, hopefully she’ll be feeling much more relaxed after some completely boring familiarity. And everyone can relax a bit - fingers crossed 🤞

This morning Maja decided it would be much easier to have a wee indoors, which at least was easier to fix than her chewing on a computer cable yesterday (my bad for leaving it in reach to be fair).

She is calmer today though. She seems to do better when she has a couple hours of quiet time at her own place, so I’m going to stop feeling guilty for leaving her there while I do my shopping or to give Carbón some one on one walk time.

Oh Maja! You are a good friend, Emily. But the apartment time out is reassuring as you say - don’t hold back on getting some respite!
