Carbon how does your beloved ML get younger and younger? I get older and older since we met!
Señorita Sonia, let me tell you her secret: a good iPhone in portrait mode, lucky lighting, and E.D.I.T.I.N.G.

I, claro que sí, do not have to rely on any of that as I am a naturally handsome señor. ML? She needs a leeetle help.

We made it to the island today!

We went muy temprano, very early, with mainly only workers on the boat. I made amigos with a nice Venetian man who told us the history of the lagoon’s oldest islands - which we already knew, but it was still very interesting.

Pero más importante, much more important, he said that my name is the Venetian dialect for “coal”. Now, we know that my name in Spanish of course also means “coal”, and ML is constantly apologizing for my uncreative name and saying SHE did not name me. Which la verdad, to be truthful, hurts my feelings un poco.

“Carbón” is a perfectly good name for a guapo gentleman such as myself. Let us tell no lies, I could make ANY name work with my mysterious je ne sais quoi. Maybe next week I will try being a Steve, just to prove my point.

Oh, donde estoy, where was I? Oh sí, this man said my name was ‘coal’ in Venetian! Which made ML so happy! Now think she will tell that story: my carefully chosen and oh so guapo name is Venetian, because I am an honorary Venetian dog. I already was really, because of my primo vaporetto riding skills, but now it is OFFICIAL!

I have seen you, amiga GGJ, and your ML is correct: you are more guapa than any of those places. And do not worry too much about missing Venice. It IS wonderful for us dogs, but home is even more wonderful. My leeeetle feet are hurting and I miss my Monkey: I am ready to leave tomorrow. More adventures can happen again after I have had a rest.

When are you coming to visit me at home pleeze? I need to show you our moor.
I will tell ML to TARDIS us up north! We have been up there before, but it was a long time ago, and we did not see a ‘moor’. Does it have many things to forage and wee on?

Muchas gracias! We are home! ML says it took 10 hours to drive, but I do not believe that as it was just a short siesta. Also the very simpatica Elena took wonderful care of our TARDIS in her parcheggio and we were happy to see it ready to go after our six days in Venice. I guess it had a nice holiday too, no?

Tomorrow is a bank holiday in Germany, so ML battled valiantly to get us some fresh food, just an hour before everything closes until Friday. I think she had to stomp someone to get my cauliflower, which is really un poco ungentlemanly! But I am enjoying my deeeener now, so I will not complain.

Then we are going to sleep and sleep and I get to cuddle under my own duvet with my own Monkey. Traveling is divertente, but it is even better to be home!

Google Maps says 7h34!! I guess it must’ve thought I was driving an Audi on the autobahn! If I had a fast car and lived in Regensburg, Venice would definitely be on my long weekend away wish list!
Yes, technically it can be only 6:30-7:30 hours driving, depending on when you search on Google Maps as they base it on current traffic unless you change the parameters to a specific drive time and date - in that case the result is based on historical averages.

The first time I drove Venice to Regensburg, it DID take me only 7 hours, which definitely gave me a false sense of optimism that has lasted to this day. 🤣

However, the truth is that most of the time there is traffic, roadworks, and weather that muck all of that optimism up.

The trip down it was traffic, several accidents, and roadworks. It took 9 hours. The way back it was roadworks (lots of areas that went down to only one lane) and really heavy rain. It was a slog, but the end goal is to get wherever you’re going safely, so mission accomplished. 😊

You would need a fast car with flying capabilities and/or a death wish! 🫣 But I get it - I am also tempted to just hop down to Venice. You see why I go so often! Though if I were smart, the next time I’d break up the drive overnight in the Alps.

By the way, the train takes 12-18 hours (depending on how lucky you are), and costs about the same as driving. It also LOOKS like it would be shorter just by looking up tickets, but I’ve never had it be. German trains are just too unreliable and no Italian trains (which are quite good) run up to Munich. A lot of people swear by the new overnight Austrian train from Munich, but I’m too old for that faff now. 😉
