The Nullarbor

So glad you’ve made it safely and in good time too. It all looks very daunting, especially the long, straight road. Looking forward to reading more about your new adventure! :)

a 90 mile straight road must have been very monotonous
I would struggle to stay awake on such a long straight road
It all looks very daunting, especially the long, straight road.
So the 147km completely straight part is part of the 1,300km Nullarbor, which is almost straight the whole way. This one small section just happens to have no curves at all.

Yes, it's soooooooo boring. We swapped drivers every 2hrs and because the road is so straight, and you spend so much time overtaking the giant road trains, when it's time to swap we just stopped in the middle of the road, run around the car and race off again! You don't want to let a slow truck go past!

Wow that was an undertaking!! You are both amazing. I could never drive for so long. We once drove from Cape Town through Namibia, where the roads are long and straight from the border. Nothing to see for hours but wide open space. We said that next time, we’d fly to a central town in Namibia and tour from there. We don’t have your driving stamina anymore!

It’s so hard, definitely can relate to having to swap drivers every two hours! That’s exactly what my friend and I had to do when we drove across Canada. Once we were out of British Columbia it got very straight, flat and boring, and heavy eyes would set in 😴 once we made it to Ontario it got easier to stay awake again. It took four days total, and I will never do it again haha.
