Training your dog to travel in the car

Car travel is an important part of life for many dogs as it enables them to explore new and exciting places. But it can also lead to them visiting the vet – which might not be quite so much fun! It’s important to make sure dogs are always safe and feel confident when travelling in the car, regardless of where they might be going

Bella goes to the vet a LOT. At least once a week, often multiple days in a row. She rarely goes anywhere else in the car. She's not the biggest fan of the vet, for obvious reasons.

Yet every time there's a tiny hint that she might be going in the car, she spins in circles right next to it, so excited! Yesterday, we got to the car before I realised I didn't have the keys. Doh. The car is 30m from the gate, and the gate is 20m from the house. So, back to the gate, unlock it, to the front door, unlock that, go inside and grab the key and back out again. Bella, who is normally under my feet all the time, just sat right next to the car the whole time, refusing to move, just staring in my direction even though she couldn't see me (I peeked on the cameras).

"You said we're going in the car. I'm not leaving here until I get to go IN THE CAR!!!"

Daft creature.
