Sore ear

Poor Ella has a red ear. It's hot and looks irritated so we're off to the vet in an hour. It doesn't see to be bothering her (no head shaking or scratching) but we know how they can hide discomfort.

She's had a dose of Trazodone so fingers crossed that makes the experience less stressful for her.

I just hate having to take her ๐Ÿ™

Oh no, poor Ella! Despite all the issues I have with mine, I'm lucky that they're actually OK(ish) at the vet. Sore ears definitely need to be looked at and nipped in the bud. I hope you get it solved really quickly.

Ella's basically the opposite. She's pretty bombproof in most other situations but awful at the vet.

I think this is our first ear problem so I I guess we've been pretty lucky so far.

Hope Ella is alright at the vets and they can sort out her ear xx

Let us know how she goes on at the vets.

There was a small infection but the vet says we caught it early as it was only near the surface of the ear and not deep in the canal. We have to syringe medication in once a day for the next fortnight.

The Trazodone made a huge difference. Don't get me wrong, she wasn't happy and relaxed but it certainly took the edge off, she wasn't shaking , whining or pacing and she let the vet look in her ears.

The only other thing was that she's lost weight and I wasn't expecting it. She's down to 24.4kgs and, while the vet said she's not underweight, she probably doesn't want to lose any more. We're going to up her breakfast a bit and recheck in a couple of weeks time. Hopefully it's just a case of OH not over feeding her for once ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™‚

We try and clean Maxx's ears every week as he has had a couple of ear problems. He. Hates. It. As soon as the bottle appears he's off!

So glad you caught Ella's infection early and what a good girl for letting you apply the drops

Nearly all my Labs have been prone to ear problems, including GGJ. Now I just clean her ears once a week with drops from the vet and cotton wool and that seems to keep on top of it. She sees me coming with the ear drops and treats and lies down. Not ideal, as gravity helps them travel down the ear canal where they need to be. However she will stand for her treats and let me massage her ears, making happy dog grunty noises, so it seems to work out OK between us.
