Stilton the Mighty

We had an exciting morning out, because we’ve reached that stage where we can explore a little more - so we visited a large agricultural and gardening/pets/outdoor supplies store called Mole Avon, where Stilton was admirably ignored by most people (lots of smiles and ‘ooh’s from afar!) except a couple of shop assistants who were lovely and made him feel very welcome. We then went to the high street which was very busy with cars beeping and lorries rattling past, and men with booming voices talking on their mobiles, and dogs on leads, and so many smells. And we popped into the butchers to say hello which they were very pleased about, and Stilton thought their hands smelt lovely. And we popped into the fabulous old fashioned clothes shop which smells of moth balls. And then I went to the picture framers and the bakery for lunchtime pasties while Stilton slept in the car - and then home! We’ve been home for at least 40 minutes and he’s not flopped out yet so I’m a little disappointed… but in all seriousness he was astoundingly good at taking it all in. A busy morning!

I love seeing/hearing about all things Stilton
Hip hip hooray! That’s good to hear 😘
It’s making me very excited, but also good for relearning what it’s like having a puppy
It’s so exciting, and excellent, and exhausting - in undulating portions :D

For example, this little sleeping angel IMG_5025.jpegsqueaked to go out at 2.40am (hussah, well done Stilton!), saw that the grass was wet outside so scooted back inside to wee on the towel by the door ( entirely understandable, I was quick enough to scoop him up mid wee and he finished on the grass). He then squeaked in his pen, chewed everything he could including my arm, ankles, and feet, gnawed at the kitchen table which has become his favourite obsession and every time I redirected he’d chomp down on my hands rather than the chew toy in my hands. I nearly but didn’t quite lose my temper after the 8th redirection and chomping  - trying not to yell in pain and wake the rest of the house - and now he’s curled up on his little bed and snuffling sweetly like the gorgeous little pup he is!

We’ve also had marital strife over the table-chewing this evening (really down to sleep deprivation) when my husband did lose his temper which meant I abandoned my dinner and stood outside for half an hour with Stilton playing with a plant pot in the rain 🌧🤣 until he came inside and fell asleep.

And through all of this, the Forum mantra drums through my head:
This Too Shall Pass…

Yes, this too shall pass! Once it passed I remember looking back thinking, ‘well, in the grand scheme of things it was only awful for a few months’ 🤣 which really isn’t so bad when you look back over the years, but oh those first few months until they lose those dang puppy teeth are awful, and it’s a good thing they are so darn cute! 😅 Definitely appreciate when he’s a sleeping angel, and recharge yourself also when you can! Frozen kongs helped me keep some of my sanity 🙃 But you’re definitely not alone, puppies are exhausting and take a lot of patience, but they are so worth it :inlove:
One day you both will think back at Stilton’s large and expensive favourite chew toy (kitchen table) and giggle, just not for a little while yet!
