The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

We had our last visit with Cookie Man’s best amigo, who now lives in a nice apartment community for older people who need some extra help. ML has known him since she was five years old and he is one of her favorite people.

I was muy bueno and calmly used Cookie Man’s foot as a pillow as I am not allowed on the sofa when I am working. It is hard sometimes, but I am very bueno at my job - and claro que sí, very guapo too!

Oh amigos, she is doing it again - packing! That only means that I was right - my Spanish gentleman instincts are muy bueno - and we are off this morning on a big viaje back to Bavaria.

Pfft! I do not want to leave! Cookie Man is my soul mate in understanding that I need at least three breakfasts and two dinners with a few snacks in between when I am feeling weak!

De verdad, keep me in your thoughts, for surely today is a sad day for your Señor. ML had better have something espectacular planned for our travels once we are back in Europe, or I will be very put out. Maybe I will even go on a hunger strike!

Pues, ehem, on second thought…I do not think us Labradors DO hunger strikes as we get quite faint if we do not eat at least every two hours. So I will just do my best Señor Grumpypantalones face. I am sure ML will understand and give me some comforting cookies.

Hoping you are safely back in Europe now xxx
We are in the train from the airport to Regensburg. Poor Carbón is a pooped pup. It was sad to say goodbye to ‘Cookie Man’ but a relief to be back on ‘my’ side of the Pond.

But yeah, I think Carbón’s opinion will be “Pfft!” about leaving Cookie Man. He looks a bit sad in our goodbye photo. 🥺

He does 🥺 and Carbón so rarely looks sad. But we must part, so we can meet again! How wonderful it is to be so loved 😍

How are you and Carbon doing. Have you got home yet @Emily_Babbelhund x
Well, ‘home’ is a relatively arbitrary term for Carbón and me! 😂 But yes, we are in a little Airbnb in the countryside about a half hour drive from Regensburg. It’s an apartment inside a larger single-family (‘detached’ in UK lingo) house.

The owners are on holiday until Wednesday, so it’s very quiet. I suspect it’s very quiet regardless as it’s a tiny village!

We had a walk around the neighborhood this morning and didn’t see a soul. Most of the houses are quite large and modern, very tidy in the Bavarian way. 😉

It’s a little weird being so near Regensburg but not in the Old Town, but so far I like it. It’s very convenient to have my car outside the front door and an outdoor space (there’s a private garden). Also people in the countryside are naturally more friendly than in the city - I kind of went into shock when the cashier at Aldi spoke to me. 😂

The downside is of course that my whole German life is in the Old Town, which means driving back and forth for the doctor, lawyer, friend visits, etc. On Wednesday I put 150 km on my car doing just that.

Still my verdict is that I WOULD come back here for a longer stay if the place is available. 😊 The extra space, extra quiet, and extra freedom of my car immediately available are really nice!

In theory we’re leaving here for Spain and Portugal a week from today, but I still have made zero plans. I may just dig in and refuse to leave until Christmas! 😬😉😆

You know that you would be welcome to join us for Christmas day here my lovely but your little house sounds ideal xxx
That’s really kind, Kate. ❤ But unfortunately I can’t enter the UK for Christmas anyway because of my maximum stay allowance - got to respect the Home Office.

I’ll be somewhere in Portugal for Christmas. Probably in a not very nice Airbnb because who waits to the last second to book Christmas and New Year’s accommodation?! What is left is likely a wee bit dodgy. 🫣

But hey, adventure. 😝

Love your positivity! 😜
The worst travel experiences absolutely make the best travel stories. 😂

It seems hardly any time since you were leaving Cornwall and won't be long until you are back to your 🌽🧱 home x
I feel like I left Cornwall about six YEARS ago.
🥴😵💫😉

But definitely not long now until I’m back. 🥳

Aaaaaand…that’s part of the problem. I know darn well that I could roll into the UK anytime after the 6th of January, and the temptation is very great just to do that instead of doing this ‘check Portugal out for future retirement’ trip in between Germany and Cornwall.

So I’m aware that my chronic procrastination in making my Portugal accommodation plans has less with not wanting to go to Portugal (I know it’s beautiful and I’m fortunate to have the chance to go), and a lot more with wanting to have ANY excuse to make a beeline to Cornwall as soon as I legally can.

At this point in the year, my base instinct is always to be like an old pack mule headed back to the stable! 😂
