Reuben

Just a little update x He has had his second vaccinations now and in a couple of days or so, he can go out for walks ! He weighs 11 and a half kilos, which is a good gain, slow and steady , best way for a potentially big dog . He asks to go out most times and loves the garden , whatever the weather and most nights he sleeps for about 7/8 hours . He still dislikes the car , but is slowly improving , I think when he realises that its a means to a pleasant end , he will be more accepting of it . He and Nelly play , a lot , and we do have to step in sometimes when it gets wild ! We pick Nelly up and tell the boy to go to his bed, works most times but he is feeling his feet ! I cant believe its only three weeks since we picked him up , its flown by . Am currently working on leaving him for short spells, not too bad and am also working on training Paul ! Reuben is a confidant little lad and needs firm but fair cues , sadly Paul is too soft in this department and then wonders why Reubs wont comply, hummm . All in all , he is doing well , cant wait to get him out and about xx

Wow - three weeks in already!

(Partner Training is always harder than puppy training, then they wonder why the pups will do things easily for you and not them )

Don’t forget to take it slow when you get out and about, confident pups in the house can sometimes take a while to walk confidently in the Big Wide World :)

Aww all sounds lovely! Good boy Reuben x

@Boogie thats interesting, must try and remember that method. x
It works great with new pups - you use a lot of treats because every time they walk in the right position you feed feed feed for the whole walk (not many minutes but it’s still a lot of treats). You need to feed only when they are walking just right - it took Spencer no time at all to master it.

:)

Sounds as if he's making good progress, he's been remarkably good at night hasn't he? It's early days for the car really isn't it? Exciting to be able to take him out and about soon.

Sadly for me I don't have an OH to train, but I do have a grown up son and daughter who love dogs but have never had a gundog before, and are used to farm dogs living outside. It's been quite tricky at times teaching +R methods when learning about it myself, not of course that they would ever be cruel, but I think sometimes they think Cassie is in charge! Well of course they are right :)
