I’m a bit frustrated and looking for ideas.

I love the Mantrailing so much, and so does Tatze. But I can only realistically go once every two months as it’s an hour’s drive and Mr Boog and I share a car - so it ties up the car for most of the day.

We do really well at sharing the car and it saves a fortune, but things clash sometimes - they are bound to, he’s a keen musician who carts drums around to gigs. So I’ll miss the next Mantrailing session due to it clashing with a gig.

I’d love to find someone to be my ‘hider’ to do it at home, but I really can’t think of anyone.

The other idea would be to meet up with another Mantrailer and take it in turns - that would work, but who? None of my friends are interested, even those who have dogs.

Any ideas?

What about asking a local dog training club or training group? They might have folk who are interested.

If I was closer I'd do it :) .

I could do with someone to help me throw/hide dummies for Cassie too!

@Selina27 's idea seems the most sensible, but a second option: Is there a way to ask in the man trailing group you've already participated in if anyone lives down your way so that you could hitch a ride? Or could you take the train up closer to where it's held and someone could pick you up from there?

I know Tatze isn't used to the trains like your GD puppies, but maybe this would be the reason to get her started riding the rails. :)

Could you adapt the activity so that you dragged a scented cloth along the ground, hid it in some bushes and then got Tatze to follow the trail, with you yourself rewarding her with food when she found it?

Or a different, but related activity, is scent discrimination. I do this in a very casual way with Molly. I have 2 identical cloths but one I carry around next to my skin for a while before hand while the other is kept in a plastic bag and I handle it wearing a plastic bag over my hand. I sit Molly facing away from me while I put the two cloths out and then send her to fetch the one that smells of me.

That would be really good but there are no stations in the area. :(

How about scent trailing instead, might be a class nearer for you than that and you could still do your man trailing when you can. Or alternatively bu a little car for yourself
Yes - I think we’d enjoy any scent work :)

I’m often tempted to buy myself a wee car, but really can’t justify the expense. We really do share very well considering we both have many and diverse interests. The pup needs a lot of public transport training so I do a lot of buses, trams, trains etc - and Mr Boogs is always happy to walk to the gym if I’ve got the car all afternoon.

We don’t do much together - 40th wedding anniversary in July :giggl:

I wish I lived a bit closer, I would have helped you out!

I am a track walker....I thought I did mantrailing, but according to the trainer it is man tracking. In Holland it has become very popular and the course is very much filled up. I promised the trainer to help her out....
Perhaps someone in your neighborhood could help you, perhaps one of the children? They like hide and seek if it is in a save surrounding?
Together with my husband we practice tracking and put some tubes on a trail to train Finn to use his nose and search for the track. We have some tubes with holes in it with some treats in it. He has to find these on his way. He gets a treat out of the tube when he find one.
