Cold water tail...

Oh my, poor lamb Merlin. He didn't even swim today, just crashed around in the streams. He's very uncomfortable this evening, with his tail hanging down and unable to settle properly. I've given him metacam, but the problem is we are driving to the UK tomorrow morning. Poor boy, I hope he is feeling better tomorrow.

I’m sorry @MellowYellow , poor Merlin - I remember this with Kipper and it was distressing to see how uncomfortable it is for them. I’m sure the Metacam will help a lot, and from my limited experience the first few hours are most uncomfortable. Once you’re in the UK could you get some more from a vet if needed?

I'll see how he is first thing tomorrow. Our vet opens at 08:00, so I think I'll pop in there before we leave, just to make sure we have enough metacam to last us over Easter Sunday and Monday. At least he'll have a quiet day tomorrow, and there is plenty of space in the back of the car for him. It's so sad though, he was having such fun with my son.

I doubled up the metacam because he was so uncomfortable. I did read the pamphlet first; it says that in cases where the dog is very uncomfortable, the first dosage should be 2mg per kilo body weight. Hopefully it'll kick in soon.

You have everything under control!! Good to read that he has plenty of space in the car. The rest in the car will do him good! Take enough metacam with you!

You could add paracetamol as well as the metacam, we occasionally do if Monty is looking stiff, I think it works well.

Poor lad, it really is horrible watching them feeling so uncomfortable. Hopefully the metacalm works, Pepper was noticeably better within 48 hours when he suffered limber tail earlier in the year.

Poor sausage, I hope he's having a settled night, and the enforced rest in the car will probably do him a world of good. How awful that he got it just from some splashing about in water, that's bad luck.
