    Pulling on the lead

We’ve been far more successful with Stilton on this than we were with Kipper; Kipper’s brilliant now, but Stilton cracked it quite quickly (remembering he’s nearly 3). We spent months and months with Kipper not going anywhere, just slowly up a bit of pavement and circling round every time he...

    Farewell, tiny Pongster

Oh Rosie, you write so beautifully about darling Pongo. I’m so sorry he’s gone, but mostly celebrate a life joyfully lived with people he loved and who loved him in the very best way. You couldn’t have served him better. So much love and support to you all, he will leave a huge gap xxxx

Oh Kate, I can only imagine how upsetting this is for you both. Sending heaps of love and all the lambies in the world for little Nelly xxxxx

    Pulling on the lead

That’s all completely understandable but in the kindest tone possible, give yourself a break! He’s an animal, not a robot - you can’t promise yourself how future behaviour will go, and it’s not fair to put heavy expectations on yourself and Stanley for a skill that takes a lot of learning. How...

    Tuppy’s teeth

Dear Tuppy, that’s a fair procedure for anyone and it sounds like she’s been very stoic. Don’t feel bad about not spotting the urgency, we know how brilliant dogs are at masking discomfort and teeth especially are difficult to keep an eye on. Really good to get on top of that abscess, you should...

    Coco

Oh feller - that’s a beautiful photo of him 🥰 it’s tough when our dogs are getting on, and 12 is in the more experienced category - I’m still outraged that 8 is considered a senior dog! I’m guessing maybe a step or ramp is something you’re thinking of.

    Sensitive tummy food?

Poor Tatze, and you - you’ll be glad to get that sorted, hopefully they give you a simple solution. Kipper has a sensitive tummy, and after much trial and error (including the vets exclusive recommendations which didn’t suit), we’ve landed on Wolfworthy. Kipper has beef, Stilton has all fish due...

    Poor Gizmo

So heartbreaking Kelsey, but so loving. You knew it was Gizmo’s time, and I’m glad you felt Axel there waiting to take him onwards. You did so well with Hugo too, helping him to understand Gizmo isn’t coming back - he’ll be grieving now like you, give him time and love and you’ll process it...

    Poor Gizmo

Exactly as Emily says, Gizmo is a much loved friend - I’m so sorry this decision has come so close, and we’re right here on your shoulder with buckets of support and sympathy. Sending you and Hugo and Gizmo so much love ❤️

    Poppy

Oh Karen, you do whatever you need to get through the next however long - one foot in front of the other, and no expectations from your friends here. What beautiful photos of your girl. She was made for you, and you loved her so well xxxxx

    Lambies for Joy please.

It also sounds a bit like the start of an assessment from training days - “in your clinical judgement, would x always lead to y?” - so it keys into those deeply ingrained ‘correct’ ways of doing things that would stand scrutiny. Maybe the softer version of ‘can we record that decision in the...

    Lambies for Joy please.

It’s often handy isn’t it to have a few ideas to bounce around, it helps get to the nub. And I like that term for sharpening the focus! I think people like to hear it too, which doesn’t hurt ;)
