    Tatze's eye

Agree with previous comments. A few years ago we were prescribed eye drops - I was very annoyed to discover that I could have had cream instead which would have been so much easier!

    Poorly ear

It sounds like it was very successful! My mum (!) has similar procedures (albeit not under anaesthetic) on a regular basis and says she feels dizzy and disoriented afterwards. But it does clear up the problem. @Stacia recommendation for a glass of wine for you combined with a cuddle for Cassie...

    Poorly ear

Good that they are going to have a proper look. Small Cassie sends her best wishes for a speedy recovery to big Cassie.

    Confused about Crate Size

I would second the idea of a pen. My Cassie doesn’t like her crate much - she will go in it to sleep with the door open but doesn’t go in of her own accord. It was useful having a pen around the crate as we could put her in there when she needed to sleep as a very small pup. Like @HAH we are...

Biting flank and base of tail

That’s would be ideal and I think we can work towards that but for now I use around two thirds of her entire kibble allowance for loose lead walking and general training. I couldn’t add that many other treats without unbalancing her diet. I add other treats (eg JR pate) for actual training...

    In praise of Chappie !

Agree! Cassie had a dodgy tum over the weekend and I bought some Chappie. It worked well.

Biting flank and base of tail

It’s good to know that it worked for Meg. I can try soaking kibble but this would mean that I can’t use it for training treats (could soak some I guess). I have booked an appointment with a dog nutritionist for tomorrow so will see what she suggests. I have read that wet food may help UTIs so...

Biting flank and base of tail

Interesting that Stilton went through a similar phase. I suspect that Cassie is affected by it as she also struggles to settle at times when in theory (exercised, fed, brain used, tired) she should settle. Hopefully, as you say, it might all work itself out as she grows up. I can ask the vets to...

Biting flank and base of tail

We fed our last dog on Nutriment from 8 months to around age 7. She was fine on it until she started having a lot of bloody diarrhoea episodes which required medical treatment. I was reluctant to blame the raw food but eventually we switched to home cooked and the diarrhoea stopped. In Holly’s...

    Confused about Crate Size

I also have a 42 inch crate as I wanted one which would be big enough for her when she was fully grown. I think it was a bit too big to start with as she did use half of it as a toilet initially so a divider may be useful. Good luck!

Biting flank and base of tail

Yes, although they don’t seem to consider effects of diet beyond “maybe more fibre will help”. I think I will consult a dog nutrition/dietician - I am sure there is an answer somewhere.

Biting flank and base of tail

The throwing up is recent ( don’t know if it is related to her antibiotics). She gets the kibble spread out throughout the day - about a third in a rollled up towel to sniff out for the actual meal (ie breakfast, lunch, dinner) and the rest as training treats. It can be an hour or two after...

Biting flank and base of tail

Cassie often bites her flank or base of tail - a sudden whizz around as if something suddenly hurt. She has done this ever since we brought her home at 8 weeks. The vet has checked her anal glands twice and expressed them but the biting hasn’t changed. She is still on ABs for the UTI. I hoped...

Harness - worth persevering or not?

Thank you. That sounds like a slow and careful introduction to a harness. I can make a start on that now - it will be weeks before I get as far as the putting it on stage so it won’t stress her now. @Boogie - since guide dog pups don’t wear a harness, do you only go on very short training walks...

Harness - worth persevering or not?

Yes, our last dog never had a problem with a harness so it was a surprise to me when Cassie suddenly started hating it. It’s always worth adding your thoughts though as it is clear that all dogs are different so many different views are also welcome and useful. 😀

Harness - worth persevering or not?

The classes recommend a long line for work in the beginner classes where the dog needs to be further than a lead length away. There are three different classes across the field so they don’t want pups or young dogs running around. Having said that, we didn’t have a harness or long line on the...

Harness - worth persevering or not?

Thanks. I will look at the haqihana. Though I suspect it is the feeling of being constrained rather than the type of harness - she isn’t that keen on having her collar put on but does accept it. it would be so much easier if she could talk - although maybe not, she might comment on my poor...

Harness - worth persevering or not?

Cassie hates her perfect fit harness. I went through some desensitisation stuff (kikopup) and got her to let me put it on but she only let me put it on once and after that she wouldn’t come near for it to be put on again. I left it a week and then tried bribery ( lickimat with forthglade wet...
