    Goodbye to Molly

Thank you Alison (and everyone). I went out today and as I came in the door I went to call out 'Hello Molly, I'm home' - it was like a punch in the stomach as I stopped myself. Molly had a very long slow decline, but she's had some happy times over the last few months, with little trips to the...

    Goodbye to Molly

We have had Molly put to sleep this morning. Yesterday she was clearly feeling ill - lethargic and not eating (unheard of for her). It was very peaceful - she went into a deep sleep and then died. I'm in bits.

A good sign that Annie appeared for breakfast. I hope she starts to feel more herself as the day goes on.

    Molly and maggots

Thanks everyone. Molly seems fine now - no maggots since last Monday morning. Just a shaved patch of hair to regrow.

    Molly and maggots

Yes thanks @Cath - no sign of maggots since early Monday morning and the wound has pretty much healed over. Not sure how long I should keep her in a Tshirt (well, old swimsuit actually). I might give it one more day.

    Molly and maggots

Thanks for asking Cath. Thankfully no maggots (and I've looked very carefully) for 24 hours now and the wound looks ok. Second tablet today and continue regular inspections and hibiscrub use. Molly, bless her, is taking it all in her stride. So looking hopeful.

    Molly and maggots

Yes I had heard of this too, but I imagine there are different types of maggot/lavae. Molly's seem to be from house flies. We did have a lot of flies around during the very hot weather last week and because Molly can no longer manage the beach we were keeping her coat damp by sprinkling water on...

    Molly and maggots

If you're squeamish you may not want to read this. I got up and took Molly out to toilet around 6.30 am yesterday (Sunday) as I was going to a show with Tess. Molly looked normal but while I was away for the day apparently maggots suddenly erupted from a place on her skin. My husband and son...

Oddy is in need of some Lambies

Poor Oddy. I'm sure you'll be relieved to hand over the responsibility to his owners.

    What made you smile today?

This evening I took Molly out onto the grass verge opposite our house and a neighbour from about six doors down, who I only know to exchange 'Good mornings' with, walked up to us and said she wanted to tell me how she had watched and admired the way we had cared for Molly throughout her life...
