Injection for dogs against fleas and ticks

Snowie got grand mal seizures from Bravecto and also the spot-ons. I would absolutely never use an injectable form of insecticide. Straight into the blood stream. Of course, I’d never use any insecticide. I’d rather use a repellent if needed.

    I have bitten the bullet

We have insurance. For the big expenses, it’s been worthwhile. And for the peace of mind that money won’t be a reason if we ever need specific treatment. However, I do wonder whether we accept unnecessary procedures because we know insurance will pay anyway. And I’d love to know what the...

    Oreo

It’s a big op. Must be very painful. Glad to hear she’s feeling better.

    Ella, my lumpy bump girl

I hope they are nothing. We’ve investigated Snowie’s lumps over the years and they were all nothing.

    Maxx is limping 😞

Poor Maxx. Perhaps he pulled something? Hopefully he’ll be fine soon. xxx

    Dirty paws

@Candy that is brilliant! Perhaps you didn’t mean it to be funny? But I just love the way us Lab people think. 😁

    Snowie

The good that came out of That Conversation is that we have started on old-aged pain management, which has improved Snowie’s quality of life. I’m pleased it triggered us to investigate it and get started.

    Snowie

Thankfully he hasn’t appeared nauseas, and his poos are the same. The gagging has also stopped overnight. I’ve been injecting the meds into chunks of bread, so hopefully it’s minimising the contact with his oesophagus. And he gets a chewy and then peanut butter to lick after, so hopefully a good...

    Snowie

@Joy @Stacia how did “not tolerating” Metacam present? As to be expected, Snowie is a bit flatter being off the prednisone, not as eager for his meals, not parading around wagging his tail as much. But he’s not hesitating getting up off his bed or going up and the down the stairs, so we’re...

    Dirty paws

Epsom salt soaks are good for arthritis. But I don’t think the solution to your immediate need for clean paws! Could you have a bucket of water at the door that you can use to dip each paw and dry it? We’ve found that Biotane in alcohol has been excellent for Snowie’s paws. Cleans and...

    Snowie

Snowie is on liquid Metacam for 10 days and we are to report if it has the desired effect. It’s an interesting syringe: the measurements are in kilograms. For Snowie, we syringe up to the 35-kg mark—his weight! It’s a very effective way to deal with the mental gymnastics of working out dosage...

    Farewell Frank

That’s very sad. I’m so sorry for their loss, especially under these circumstances. xxx

    Swollen muzzle

Poor boy! I guess he stuck his nose somewhere to sniff something and disturbed an insect or a spider. My dad used to say that when he was a child they’d say, “It’s unlucky to smell flowers”, which I found very odd. Until he said it was because you usually got stung! I hope the swelling goes...

    Snowie

Snowie has been soooo happy. Wagging his tail non stop. Full of energy. Did a 40-min walk yesterday like he used to do every day. Gets up without the usual cajoling. Jumps onto the sofa. I’m guessing that once the prednisone wears off (he had his last 1/2 tablet today—been lowering the dose...

    Snowie

Thank you! Yes, he totally put my mind at rest. And the prednisone has taken years off Snowie. He’s way too energetic now!! 😁 Up early sliding around the bed, tail thumping, eager for breakfast. Up in an instant for anything. Transformed. Pity it can’t be used long term. We are back at our vet...

    Snowie

We were at the vet today cos Snowie stepped on something going down into a stream 3 weeks ago. Initially we thought it was just a bad scratch that was infected, but the hole in his paw pad wasn’t healing and the pad was very swollen (back paw). The vet (a lovely locum; our vet is away) first...

The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Carbon, Snowie will tell you that scales at different vet practices are different! They can be a kilo or two different! Yes! It is true! (It actually is. I guess they’re calibrated differently. Snowie weighed 1 kilo less (or more, depending on how you wanted to view it!) between our regular vet...

    Snowie

Thank you everyone for your kind and caring words. It has been an emotional few days. I have my nephew’s wedding soon (overseas), and I’ve been putting off booking my ticket because I was so worried about Snowie. Last night my sister-in-law was telling us about her dad—a retired vet—who put...
