Dark nights and a reminder to self

It’s dark now when Red and I go out for a walk around the village. I put a light on her colllar and a light on me and I wear my bright orange jacket. So many people walk in dark clothes and with dark dogs! I get minimal warning that they are approaching. Red has been doing great with our A to B tactic on seeing other dogs. These past few nights though we have been so close when we’ve seen the dog walker’s and she has reacted with a lunge (not as bad as she used to do). I have managed to get her relatively quickly focussed by saying ‘this way’ and steering her away but I need to be doing that to prevent the lunge. It suddenly dawned on me this evening I need to go back to when we were first training this and practice it even when we aren’t seeing other dogs.

Good girl Red ! I used to take Sam out at night too , wearing a rather fetching High Viz jacket which he hated with a passion , but I agree , some people seem intent on either being in an accident or causing one ! x

Yes it’s bizarre isn’t it? There’s a man who has a motorised scooter and he uses it on the main road through the village. Tonight he was doing a right hand turn into a side road from the main road and you could barely see him - he had dark clothes on and just the front light on the scooter which wasn’t very bright. As most people round here have these huge high powered cars and drive far too fast, it begs the question - are they completely stupid or don’t value their life - sorry I have deviated from dog training - rant over
