Goldies vs Labs

yes when we were in the UK and met with lovely @Natalie, Mr Natalie and gorgeous Monty I was gob-smacked by the mud we were walking in. When I commented she was a bit like 'what mud?' Yikes. So yes, I don't think mud would play such a part but if The Hair is worse than Maxx I would seriously consider this as an important element to the decision. However on the other hand, I love watching videos of GR's on FB as they seem very personable and oh so cute and goofy
Ah! But you met somewhere near Uxbridge as I remember? That means it was Middlesex Mud. I grew up with Hertfordshire ( not far from Middlesex) mud. Let me assure you that it doesn't compare to Yorkshire/Lancashire Mud. That is in a whole league of it's own, as I am sure Mags@Boogie will agree, and when semi dried on and stuck to the beautiful fronds of a Golden Retriever's undercarriage it takes some serious slooshing down to remove! Still love the boy to bits though!โค

I have a number of friends and family with Goldies. My general observation is that they're calmer and quieter. They also seem to have a stubbornness that often results in them just lying down and refusing to budge. I've noticed them being a little more scared of things too.

I guess it really depends in what you're looking for. I could easily see how the calm and quiet could be seen as a really good quality.

For us personally, we see it is more of a negative. I love that Ella is a 7yr old nutter that's full of life and energy and I think it gives her personality. We're a busy, crazy, energetic family and having a similar dog suits us perfectly.
