Grass Munching

Across the ocean Quinn has been eating lots of grass this year! If she falls behind me on walks, I know she has found a particularly yummy patch of long grass :ROFLMAO:

Kipper too! Same as Quinn, starting to spot the lush bits that look particularly tasty to Kipper when we're out and about. Same pattern as Plum; sometimes lots, sometimes not much. Little cowpup!

Rory had a problem that if his tummy hurts he will eat obsessively anything he can reach. He eats large amounts of vegetation mouthful after mouthful. It is actually impacted so I have to remove it from his mouth. The vet realised I didn't like doing it but it's so dangerous for him to swallow so much stuff. By training his leave it and distracting him it's almost gone now and he only does it when his tummy hurts. It's makes him very sick,. The sad thing is that before he's sick he gets on my knee and looks sad and licks his lips. He did it yesterday he'd sneaked off and nibbled too much grass so threw up. He's fine again now

Molly is a persistent grazer too. Unfortunately she often eats the long tough strands that could cut if you ran a hand along them and I've wondered why.
The worse outcome though is that she gets 'floppy bottom' when a pesky strand of grass can't be ejected  I have on occasion had to resort to a large dock leaf or similar to help her out. Most unpleasant !

I used to think dogs, like cats would eat grass if they had a bellyache to make themselves sick or to soothe in some way, but have been told by vets that this isn't right. I wonder now, with what Rory does if there is a reason why they eat grass. I've wondered what they would do if presented with a bowl of grass at meal time.

Mmmm, I've heard this too but I have to say that when both Monty and Jess the cat eat grass, it often(more than half the time) results in being sick, not serious but enough to notice. I guess all our dogs are different with different digestive patterns and sensitivities
