Licking wee

We've been walking our friend's Aussie Shepherd Kit as his human mummy has just had a baby. He's a lovely 18month old, entire boy.

Today, when Ella would wee, he'd lick her wee. He was also smelling and licking her lady bits a lot while on the walk.

I've checked Ella and I might even pop a urine sample to the vet on Monday but I have no reason to think that there's anything wrong with her.

Has anyone witnessed this type of behaviour before?

Yes, Finn licks wee. When walking him he stands often still, sniffing and licking other dogs wee....There are no other dogs around, but there are some female dogs he plays with so now and then. There is one pug, female, from where he licks her private parts. He didn’t want to come home with me, he rather stayed with her!

Finn is not entire....

For the first time ever I saw a dog lick Red’s lady bits. Out on a walk the other day and we meet a lady and her male Lab. Red does her usual throwing herself down on her back and he had a good lick. Did wonder if this was normal so good to read it is

What can I say. but after his initial, I want to play stance, he has done this to a few selected dogs .He does not do it for long, just enough to embarrass me. He has always done this to his friend Puk and she always does his back! Puk is spayed.

Lilly seems to attract boys even though spayed.
3 year old Archie, also done, has been staying with us. He is a collie, known lilly since he was tiny. Gives her a good lick if not diverted.
Not seen wee licking myself.

Even though a bitch is spayed there is still some female hormone. My Lab is castrated but he still knows when a bitch is in season and gets very fresh!

Toffee is a dreadful wee licker. If I take the boys out together he tries to catch Ripple's wee as he does it . Today he nudged Ripple while he was weeing so Ripple weed on his feet, Toffee then very kindly licked his feet clean.

Snowie could get a job with the local Council Clean-up service—he licks all the wee off the pavements and walls. Sometimes if a dog wees in front of him, he’ll lick up the whole little puddle. Sometimes I wonder if I should be concerned if other dogs are on meds. The other day he licked up all the wee of a bitch who I know is on epilepsy meds.

He also licks the bits, boys or girls, and always greets the rear end with a good sniff.

I think it’s completely normal. Lots of dogs and bitches do it. As swampy says, info gathering. Maybe also info removal?

I am told that sometimes over interest in the bits can be because of a uti, that the scent mimics the on heat scent.
