Light mornings

Reuben used to happily sleep until 7 or even 7.30 a.m. but now the lighter mornings are here, he thinks its time to be up, am now seriously considering some black out curtains ! do the lighter mornings get yours up earlier ?

Spencer has always barked as soon as he’s awake so we’ve had lots of early mornings - but the light doesn’t seem to wake him, just the fact that he’s had enough sleep. I asked my supervisor about it, because I want to sleep to 7am, not 6am. She said ignore his barks, he’ll soon learn that they are ineffective.

It worked! I can get up, shower and come down at 7:30am and he doesn’t bark. I think being given permission to ignore his barks is what helped me do it!

:)

No, in a word.

I can dress, wash, put on coat, boots, get keys etc. then when she hears me get the lead out of the cupboard she comes down.
She stretches and slowly trots downstairs and waits by the front door.
Talk about leaving it last minute! (she's a bit like her owner - just get up and go!)

Cassie did when she was very small, it was June when she landed in my kitchen :), so light very early. But I don't remember her waking early the following summer at 12 months plus, and she certainly doesn't now she's almost 3.

No, I don't think so. Quinn's morning routine is quite set - she sleeps until around 7:15, as we leave for our walk at 7:30 on week days. Some mornings I even have to call her down because she's still sleeping! On weekends, she sleeps in as long as we do and has done so since a young puppy (thank you to the puppy gods). No matter the season or sunny weather! She also puts herself to bed at night at 9pm sharp too...doesn't matter what we are doing!

Pepper definitely sees daylight as meaning it’s time to start the day! And then some days after he’s got us up, he falls asleep downstairs for an hour or so!

Maxx used to get us up at 5.00am and it has slowly increased to about 6.30-6:45am. He is like Stanley: gets us up and causes chaos for a short while then goes back to sleep until it's time for his walk. I get up at 5.30 on work (in the city) days and he is very unwilling to get up! OH has to coax him upstairs while I get ready so I don't have to keep watch on him stealing my shoes etc

Wispa sometimes wakes early, but I’m not sure that it’s because of the light. It could be the dawn chorus or foxes outside. I just let her out without talking to her and then send her back to bed. Tuppence just snoozes until I get their breakfast!
