Lipoma

I had a fright on Sunday night when I found a lump in Maisy's fluffy knickers. It was a very long night and next day until I saw the vet at 6.45pm yesterday, but he is confident it is a Lipoma, fatty lump under the skin about the size of a small button. I was so relieved but also feel very sad, although common in labs and lab crosses, says the vet, it is a sign of age creeping up. I will leave it unless it becomes too large and bothers her, although I know a black lab that has a huge one on the side of his ribs and his owner doesn't want to put him through an op. Ideally I want it to stay the size it is, we'll see in the future.

That must have been a horrible wait, but it sounds like good news in the main. Completely understand the sadness, but I suppose it's a bit like liver spots and skin tags for humans - a mark of greater experience and wisdom, rather than a blemish. Character that comes with age, if we're fortunate x

Ah yes, the lipomas... Poppy is affectionately known as 'Lumpy the Tick Mother-Ship' these days.

Doug was more lipoma than dog. He had loads but he was fine. If they got in the way we got them taken off other than that we left him alone. Once we knew what they were and they were non cancerous we left things alone.

What a shock for you. Sky started to get lumps and bumps and initially very worrying until we knew what they were. I understand your sadness as time seems to be romping away. I hope it doesn’t get any bigger

I can understand the sadness that you feel, time going by so quick.
But hopefully many more active years for Maisy.

My late Labrador girl Tess was prone to lipoma lumps . Most were not very big so once we knew what they were , we let them be . She only ever had to have one removed because it was pressing on her jugular , but apart from this , we just thought the others were part of her . Hoping Maisie will continue to cope well and that it stays as it is now xxx
