Living with Poppy - Holiday Notes

We are in Cornwall for a week and we've just arrived at our self catering cottage. We broke the journey yesterday and stayed at The George in Longbridge Deverill. A really nice very dog friendly Inn.

We've stayed there before but not with the Pop dog. I must say she was very good; even in the bar for supper, although I was slightly annoyed by a customer feeding her dog biscuits. They didn't agree with her at first and she threw them up on the bedroom carpet. We had just scraped together paper and a damp towel to clean up when we discovered that Poppy decided to give them a second go. Not a trace. Not even a damp patch.

This morning at 06:30 I took Pops out for a wee and a pooh. Walking along the corridor I wondered what the knocking sound was only to discover that Poppy's permanently wagging tail makes a really fine door knocker! Two smart raps on each door we passed. Managed to escape undetected as the phantom knocker!

Out to supper at the house of some friends who have two boxers and a pond with koi carp. Will report back on whether the koi survived the Pop dog.

Koi

I'd remembered our friends dogs incorrectly. They had two boxers but one died about 18 months ago and they replaced her with a lovely springer-beagle cross now 1 year old called Purdey. Poppy has met them before just the once but she obviously remembered them because she went straight for Maisie's squeaky ball and ran off with it around the garden. Both Maisy (boxer) and Poppy are ball-obsessed but Poppy is much more "dominant" than Maisy so the theft of the ball left Maisy much put out but unwilling to challenge Poppy for it. It would have been a waste of time anyway becasue Poppy is a past expert at ball theft!

All went pretty well for a while then - unfortunately - spotted the pond. It could have been much worse because last visit she leapt into the pond from a distance displacing water and pond plants all over the place. This time despite much shouting she walked in and across causing much distress but minimal damage, I think.

Anyway the koi survived but soaking wet Poppy had to spend the rest of the evening in the car.
