New insights into smell and vision being integrated in dog brains

There’s a new piece of research out that suggests a strong link between the parts of a dog’s brain involved in smell and the parts involved in seeing. There’s a lay article here: Dogs can ‘see’ with their noses, study suggests
I had a quick look at the original paper. It seems to support this article, although the methods were uncomfortable - MRI scans with a back up check of ‘dissection’, suggesting the subject dogs didn’t survive.

Really interesting, but I'm not sure why there's a bit of an element of surprise about dogs being able to 'see' through their noses. I would have thought that anyone who has had a dog would know this! GGJ's nose is Everso Clever!
We discussed this paper on another site I use and we all said the same thing. Enjoyed it though.
