Question about worms (warning: really disgusting)

Just got in for the night to our new digs and this has been worrying me since Carbon had a very revolting poo this afternoon...

(you've been warned)

...it had large white 1 inch or so long plump worms in it! :puke:

They were definitely dead and were not the long thin worms or 'bits of rice'-type segments I've seen in foster dogs in the past. Long story, but he got into a compost bucket this morning and ate some bread. I think the worms were there and they passed through him from the time he ate them (8-ish) to the time he eliminated (3-ish). Does that sound about the right time for doggie digestion?

Does anyone know if I need to get him to the vet for this? Normally I'd probably wait to see how his poos are for a day or so, but as tomorrow if Friday and vets are closed on the weekend, it's kind of tomorrow or nothing.

He is not lethargic, has no stomach bloating or belly painfulness (at least that he's letting on) and had quite the normal voracious appetite for dinner tonight.

May I just say ew, ew and triple ew.

Quinn had worms as a puppy...super vomit. I'm not sure that he ate worms and pooped them out hours later....I feel like with the average gross thing, it takes a day or two to appear, at least. Did you google pics of types of worms dogs get? I would prob get him de-wormed to be on the safe side...

Definitely not the normal poo worms. These were whole, quick thick and short. Not alive at all. Though if he ate them, why would they be whole? Ew, ew, ew. We were just around the corner from a vet in Florence, now we're in a new place...guess it will be Google to the rescue if there are still worms in his morning poo. Ew. Ew.

This is double gross but - did you think to photograph them??
I thought about it, but realised I'd stepped out without my mobile as it was just a round the corner wee/poo walk. And I just couldn't bear to bring the bag back to the house and put in my car. I know that's silly! All's well that ends well, though, as the vet tested Carbon and it came back as "Ancilostomi" worms. He's got treatment and hopefully that will be the end of the story! The very icky story!

So, they were actual intestinal worms then, not just something he'd eaten?
Yep, exactly. The vet thinks he likely got them through picking up eggs on his feet in a forest area, maybe even through the cut in his foot a couple weeks ago. I understood that if dogs walk through an area that has eggs then they lick their feet (which Carbon does often) then they get into the dog's system. The adult worms are in the colon. Berk. Really trying not to think about it to much!

I've seen a lot of worms in foster dogs, but NOTHING like this. Very glad I went to the vet after all!

Don’t read on if you are squeamish.

Not dog related.

Little Mags was seven years old. Not yet attending school. Her parents worked in SOWETO, South Africa, in the ‘60s, where they were involved in community projects. Part of their job involved dreary meetings where us kids would play around on the floor at the front and the adults would get on with whatever they were getting on with (all well over us kids’ heads).

I remember the corrugated iron roof and the baked earth floor, sitting with my little friends playing a game with stones, a bit like marbles. I felt a funny itching in my knickers, had a scratch and pulled out a fat foot long worm. I was fascinated (we often played with huge centipedes etc) and held it up shouting “Daddy, look!”

An enormous black woman whisked me away to her house, put me in bed and gave me nasty medicine to drink. I was happy to stay there till the time came to go home, we had lots of good African friends and it was a comfy bed.

But, looking back, how embrassed my parents must have been! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
