Saturdays are jinxed

We have three problems with Nelly . One is that because all her rear end joints are poor , surgery is ( for us anyway ) not an option as it would require several operations . Second , only mentioned fairly recently at the Vets , is that whilst her previous records have her as being born in Jan 2015 , this was only told to them by her last owner, not the most reliable of people , and our Vet thinks she is older than 4 , maybe a fair bit older . Lastly , she sometimes has little seizures , caused by her skull being too small for her brain and causing encephalitis type symptoms , for which she has pain killers , surgery could be far too risky and so we just manage her conditions . We love her dearly , she is a wonderful charismatic little dog , full of fun and love , we wont ever regret rehoming her , her life is infinitely better than the one she led before where she spent most of her time left alone in a crate without interaction . We worry about her future , but try not to dwell too much , she is living the dream for now, and now is what matters , little darling x

The little seizures are probably due to her Chiari. And if she is having a Chiari she probably has syringomyelia. That is a cyst in her spine which causes all sorts of problems, seizure like fasciculations, itch, pain, not able to walk. The signals from her spine and brains are wired, information will not come through in her brain. False information can be send too. When it becomes bothersome, muscle relaxers Wil be beneficial

Thank you @Anne123 . She can go for long periods of time with no seizure , and then have two or three in as many days , thankfully they only last for a minute or so and then she is fine, but tired . Its interesting about the false information , as a couple of weeks ago , she was asleep and suddenly flew off the sofa , ran at Reuben and growled at him . He was asleep at the time , and thankfully he wasn't concerned at her action x

Her pain could be neuropathic. Metacam won’t address her pain, perhaps a little. As she doesn’t react well on metacam, try to get her on gabapentine or pregabaline. Ask your vet about this! It will also help for her ‘seizures’. Also corticosteroids will sometimes help. Perhaps you can keep this in mind...
I was wondering about Gabapentin, too. I've looked into this a fair bit recently as it's what I've put Willow on for her anxiety, but its main use is for both neuropathic pain and seizures.

Just to clarify , Nelly is on Metacam for her joints, not for any other condition , she also had gabapentin for pain associated with her neurological pain and seizures . I stopped the metacam four days ago as I am convinced that this was what was making her sick , she had been fine now for two days , happy and spritely ! x

Yumove has done wonders for her muscles , which in turn help to carry poor joints . She is on quite a low strength of these and we can move to Yumove Advance if necessary which a Vet friend swears by , so we have these to fall back on for her muscles if necessary, but fingers crossed she is doing well at the moment x
