Smoky!

With pretty much our whole province in fire (seems like it, anyway!) the air quality is horrible because of the smoke. We are at a 10 today which is almost as bad as you can get. Have to keep the windows closed and limit outdoor activity as much as possible. I took Simba out for a walk early this morning when it wasn’t quite so bad (6) but we’ll have to stay in the rest of the day. There is literal fine ash floating in the air, and the atmosphere is getting all yellow-y. Gross.

Ash on the windshield.

And on the car.
“Our” fire is being held for now but there are still lots of hotspots to extinguish and places in the burn area where trees are still burning but they are ignoring for now yo concentrate on places that are close to structures.
It’s going to be a hot, dry weekend which is making us all quite nervous. It’s a long weekend, where people normally go camping and enjoy the beginning of summer but there is a total fire ban across the province plus a ban on recreational use of ATVs…and who would want to go camping in this smoke anyway? Ugh.
We don’t have air conditioning, so the combo of having to keep windows closed plus hot temps is not going to be fun.

Ugh I’m sorry to hear how awful it is. I’ve been following the news updates... This is not looking good, such an early start to fires this year… normally we get away without them being this bad until July ish. I have a friend who is a fire fighter in Edmonton and he’s been giving me updates too. We sent some of our fire fighters your way the last couple days (from BC) Really hoping for lots of rain and cool weather for you guys! Definitely not the May Long Weekend we are all used to! We don’t have a ban yet on campfires, which is honestly shocking to me. I won’t be having one, no way am I risking it.

So grateful for all the firefighters that have come to help! Of course they will have to go home if fires start up in their home provinces/countries (US)! I’ve heard the province/Canada is asking for firefighters from places like Australia where the fire season is over.
