I am looking to change Neo’s kibble to a new brand and could do with some pointers please if that’s ok. I appreciate with feeding that what works for some dogs doesn’t for others but would be interested in people’s opinions.
He’s currently on Acana puppy and junior, he came on this from his breeder. I went on all about dog food and it had a really good nutritional rating and he is always keen for it. We’ve not had any tummy issues (other than when he supplements it himself with cat poop etc
) so we stuck with it even though it’s on the pricey side and sometimes tricky to get hold of. Now he’s a year old I’ve been looking into whether he needs more of a ‘teenage’ food or maybe an adult one and it’s opened a whole can of worms!
He’s quite a small boy, he currently weighs just shy of 25kg and the vets were happy at his recent annual MOT. I was initially looking at the other Acana products but found a worrying report possibly linking their grain free recipes to heart conditions so will probably give them a miss, however it appears quite a lot of dog food is grain free now so I may have misinterpreted it.
The recent goings on in the world have made me think I would ideally like a uk based manufacturer/supplier going forward. I’ve been looking at Millie’s Wolfheart, does anyone use them and do you ever have any issues with supply? Any other recommendations?
I want to make it as smooth a transition as possible and I am a bit confused about whether I should try and stick to the same protein source as his current kibble (predominantly chicken) or go for something completely different? He gets other sources in his treats and pate’s and things already. Also, the meat percentage in the different flavours and brands seem to vary quite a bit, is there an ‘ideal’ or is this likely to vary depending on the dog?
The whole topic appears to be a bit of a minefield, if anyone has any insight on what works/worked for them it would be much appreciated, thanks.
