The 'Do As I Do' method

So have any of you tried this method (also known as social learning)? I haven't but am tempted to have a go. I've just read this article:
https://s3.amazon's.com/academia.edu.documents/39834200/Fugazza_Miklosi_APDT_2015.pdf?response-content-disposition=inline%3B%20filename%3DSocial_learning_in_dog_training_The_effe.pdf&X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Credential=AKIAIWOWYYGZ2Y53UL3A%2F20200316%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Date=20200316T210557Z&X-Amz-Expires=3600&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&X-Amz-Signature=0545064de6f26fa93207849bc058f9b721e70f498f22da703eb8f541e6860c3b
which claims that it is a more effective method than shaping using a clicker. (Though the numbers involved in the study were very small.)

I'm not quite sure I understand how to start - I think the idea is that you use a behaviour your dog already knows well but instead of giving your normal cue, you demonstrate the action and then ask your dog to copy it. I'm thinking of trying it with 'go round' an object as Molly has that really well generalised and it would be easy for me to demonstrate.
I'd love to hear how you got on if you've tried this method.
