The Target Stick

Just had a super game in the garden with Coco & the Target Stick. We did "around" where runs around it & comes back, then we did "target" where he runs to it and touches it, but he doesn't know what to do next, he might go around, he might come back so I quickly threw a "STOP" in - reward, recall - reward. His face is full of joy. He did get a little confuse at first with "target" so I picked it up and got him to remember with a few hand-held "targets"...then did a couple of short distance "targets", then longer distance (I'm only talking 10ft). It comes flooding back to him.

Right, time to get Meg involved. Wow! She's slow to cotton on. Using her curiosity in the target stick I rewarded for a casual poke/sniff. That's as far as we got. We went through a lot of little fishy treats. I've come in now to let it sink in and I'll try some more later. Lucky she is food motivated else I don't know where we'd go.

Coco is now keen to go out again.

My gang love target stick games! Tried to teach Casper the "go around" yesterday, nope he just wacks the target stick with his paw then barks at me! Benson tries hard, but doesn't quite get it, Otter just bounces in excitement, Bramble of course is paw perfect!
