Our dogs are just wonderful . Reuben is usually a bounding happy bundle of joy of life but things have changed .. I noticed the last time Emily and Carbon came to visit, that he was not his usually crackerdog self , still happy to see them but far more sedate . Since Nelly died , he has spent time searching for her, especially in the mornings and he carried a very sad look about him . Slowly , he began to accept that she was no longer here , the searching lessened and then my daughter died and once again he reacted in the most sweet and caring way . He began to go to Paul more than he used to , flitting between the two of us to place his big head on our knees as if to comfort us . I am sure he senses my profound sadness , he comes to be beside me on the sofa , head on my legs and eyes looking into mine as though to say, ` Its alright Mum , I`m with you ` . What an absolute wonder these dogs are , they seem to know when we need them most, dear souls xxx
