Tired dog over Christmas

Not sure this is anything serious but I've never known Monty so tired as today.

To set the scene.. Christmas Eve, he had an extra long walk at lunchtime but then visitors didn't arrive until 4 ish, and it was a fairly quiet evening, he did split his time between different bedrooms but think he got a decent amount of sleep.

Christmas day, he got 45 mins in the morning, then 50 minutes in the evening,( a lot for him, but an attempt to help him sleep) but he was pretty much on alert all day.
Then at night, we closed the door to the room my parents were sleeping in. Well. He kicked off big time. He simply would not accept the closed door, he whined, pawed, and even barked at their door. I know we can't transpose human emotions onto dogs, but Monty seemed so stubborn last night, it was untrue, he was determined to get onto the room locked off to him. I think he spent much of the night between our bedroom (finally) but also the landing, just waiting outside their room.
Today, he's knackered. Hasn't bothered us at all, he's moved between various sofas and beds, but don't think he has properly slept until now, our last visitor has left, he's had his dinner and may be finally relaxing. No walk today, he simply isn't up for it.

I reckon anxiety is the root cause , he obviously felt very unsettled and anxious with all the tooing and froing , which left him unable to settle properly and now, he has gone Phew ,all back to normal ! He wont miss a walk , he is most likely shattered anyway , fingers crossed he will be back to his usual self tomorrow x

I think we are very quick to call him a confident dog, but actually he does have some anxieties ( as shown through slippy floors etc)... although I am certain if I had opened the door to their room he would have been absolutely fine... He has always slept there with my mum and dad, the only thing is this time is that I couldn't have him jumping on the bed with my dad's bad foot, he's in agony with it anyway so couldn't cope with a big dog jumping over him.

I agree with anxiety/unsettled. He’s probably catching up on sleep. Quinn has been a mess the past two days, and hasn’t been able to settle. We left her briefly with my parents this morning and they said she was shaking and trying to get onto my dads lap once we left. She hasn’t napped in 3 days and once we get home she will sleep for a full day playing catch up.

Just mentioned him being anxious to OH ( who can sometimes be a bit dismissive of me using the word 'anxious' relating to Monty) and he said straight away, "yes, I bet he is, all the changes that have occurred over the last 3 days", glad he has noticed it too. But, what on earth do you do at midnight with a dog pawing at a closed door? Never had this before. If I'd have locked him in our room with us he would have no doubt pawed and woofed at our door.

He has always slept there with my mum and dad,
That’s probably what caused Monty’s anxiety: he couldn’t work out why he wasn’t allowed in with them. They’re creatures of habit, especially when it’s a habit they enjoy!

I hope he’s back to normal tomorrow.

I think Monty might have finally caught up on his sleep 😂😂😂.
He was fast asleep all night until I got up at 7, he had breakfast and helped us with our toast, and was back in his bed by 8am. A three hour nap followed, he helped me with lunch, then we went out for a 50 minute walk with a few mini zoomies.
Back to bed for a nap with me from 2.30 until 3.30, and I think he has finally for his mojo back 😁😁😁

Aww good boy Monty! Glad normal service has resumed. I expect all the Christmas excitement and guests in "his" bedroom had somewhat affected his beauty sleep! :inlove::inlove: Btw the way, I took Benson to bed for sneaky snooze and cuddle, we both felt soooo much better afterwards! :sun::hearteyesdog:
