What a boy!

Kipper’s now had two days of different (human) social situations and he’s been such a good boy. Yesterday evening we went to the pub for my husband’s birthday and sat outside with a group of friends for a couple of hours. Kipper was such a sausage, saying hello nicely to everyone, ignoring the cake, candles and sparklers and lying quietly by my feet most of the time until he got a bit restless and had 15 mins in the car (it was ~9.30 and cool by then). Today we had family round, and again he was lovely and calm, saying hello to everyone and then settling amongst us on the grass. He had a couple of breaks to chew the tree stump and hedge ? but left them when asked and was generally good as gold. Its really encouraging to see settling etc developing- hooray!

Our dogs make us proud when we least expect it sometimes. Yesterday we visited my daughter and went to a local pub for lunch. On entering the pub and walking towards our table an elderly asked if she could say hello to Juno and stroke her. I just asked Juno to come and sit beside me and she very politely sat in front of the lady and enjoyed being made a fuss of, and got in a few little licks ? and the lady was just so happy. She thanked me for letting her make a fuss of my dog, which I very much appreciated, but Juno was very happy to say hello ??

Hmmmm can't quite say the same for Maxx yesterday. It was his first social gathering so all in all he was pretty good I suppose. He was just a bit too excited and when anyone tried to pat him he would mouth their hands and wriggle madly. But he was very good with my niece's pappillon. Poor little thing was recovering from a burst abscess on his bottom so imagine a small ball of fur with crazy ears and a little tiny cone. He barked and snarled at Maxx who stood quite still and stared at him then looked at us with the most comical face as if to say 'what on earth is that? Sounds like a dog but looks like a freakish cat!'

? ouch! Poor papillon, that’s brutal. Sounds like Maxx was pretty darned good - this is Kipper’s usual form too, which is why I was so pleased with developments. I suspect age has a bit (lot?) to do with it too, this transition from puppyhood is fascinating and I guess we’re only at the beginning. Loving the description of Maxx’s face! I can just picture it ?

We did try to bring Maxx up onto the deck where we were all sitting in the sunshine but he was just too excited. His tail was looking at risk of clearing the low table and he kept going up and nosing people to pat him or give him some of whatever they were eating so we had to keep him on the lawn and we all took it in turns to go and play with him. He didn't sleep ALL DAY and this was him on the way home
