I agree with everyone, Silas is that bit older now and children change so much - like puppies but not as quickly. But bonding takes time and really you have only just got Reuben, there is time still.

I like the comment by @Jen about a dog being good for chatting up. I find myself talking to all kinds of nice young men about our dogs, exchanging ages, habits, phone numbers. Ok, not the last one. But if you are a shy person it is an ideal ice-breaker.
