That's a good question, Maxx never goes in past his hips (yet) and goes for a paddle most days but no, we don't rinse him when we get home unless he then rolls in some dirt and then we will rinse his legs and undercarriage. Maybe we should because he has been a bit itchy lately.

Do you Swampy?

No, I never have. We live near the sea and it doesn't seem to cause any problems or make the coat dull. My last dog had some skin problems so one summer I did try not letting him in the sea but it didn't seem to make any difference so the next year he was back in it.

No we have never done this. In the twenty + years we have labradors we let them swim regularly in the sea. Just dry them with a towel. After swimming we let them run through the dunes to dry the coats. They often roll in the loose sand to clean the fur. When we arrive at the car park we rub them dry.

It depends. Friends of mine live right on the beach and their dog is in the sea at least once a day. Because of the salt and his very thick coat, he never really dries off all summer. In that situation, I’d definitely rinse every day because it can’t be good for the skin to stay wet for months.

Pepper never gets rinsed after he’s been in the sea, which is about once a fortnight. He’s normally dried off and free of sand by the time we get back home. A quick brush and he’s good to go.
