The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Oh MY !! What a sight, what a photo!!

Who's road trip? Theirs or yours ? :)
This is my best photo ever! Snapped with my phone looking through the car windscreen while wondering if we were going to get trampled!! Herd of about 30 elephants walking silently. You’d think those massive feet would go boom boom boom on the ground. Silently padded along. And gentle and polite—when they got to our car, some stopped to let others go first—while I was hyperventilating! This is Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape. (Sorry to hijack Carbon’s thread!!)

What a weird week it's been. I left @RosieC 's on Sunday afternoon, arrived in Dingle and since then have pretty much not even been out except for one trip to the grocery store and two short jaunts between raindrops to the local beach just so Carbon could have a hoolie. Usually I'm traipsing all over Dingle, weather be damned: I really do love this place rain or shine. I've just kept thinking every day: just one more day of work and I'll go out and play. Now when I say "work" I also mean sorting my personal stuff in addition to actual paid work. With the exception of a couple hours on Monday to edit my driving video, I've stuck to work.

I guess I simply didn't realise how far behind I was on EVERYTHING after the kamikaze drive across Europe. Oops.

On the bright side, my to do list is down to manageable. I had four hours of (paid) work meetings today including a one on one with my manager. She's actually thrilled that I've not used up my hours the past few weeks: no new budget for me is coming down the pike and she has things she wants me to work on. Not working much the past few weeks means there's still time on the clock for me to do the new projects without the company having to cough up more budget. A win for everyone! This was a HUGE relief to me as I've been sweating bullets about my lack of completed hours lately.

So I guess the moral of the story is: procrastination CAN pay?

I've also sorted almost every day of travel back to Munich to catch my flight to San Francisco. Because I've seen nothing of Dingle yet, I've extended my stay over the weekend in a cute little cottage nearby. It has a fireplace and what looks to be a comfy sofa: even if it rains, we've got activities covered. Then three nights in a big house by my favourite beach in all of Ireland, Derrynane. Then it's back to Kinsale (as long as Rose has time for another visit), then at a B&B in Rosslare so that I can take an early ferry back to the UK. And that will have been my Irish sojourn for this year. Someday I need to plan a whole month here because it always goes way, way too fast.

As absolutely no touristing happened today, here are some throwback photos of Carbon in Honfleur (France) in June. He was on fire with the modelling, no? :D

I remember going to Hornfleur, many, many years ago!
It was a very pleasant surprise. My Airbnb host recommended a stop there and I thought we'd spend an hour and call it day, but it was well-worth a full day of walking around. There was even an antiques market on the day we were there - the sort of thing I love. Right around the port was miserably crowded, but the side streets pretty much deserted. A very nice day out! :)

Hola todos! It is I, your favourite Spanish Gentleman Dog, on the road and reporting from Ireland. First of all I want to say: "Pfft!!". Why do I say this? Because ML and I did all the hard work to get here and then we only spent four days with my good friend Curly Murphy and @RosieC and her magical pillow sofa. This is not NEARLY long enough. Que lastima! What a shame!

I say to ML, "This is all muy bien, very nice, but why did we have to leave Curly?" She says we are guests and should not overstay our welcome, but this I do not understand. How could anyone get tired of ME? I am so lovable and guapo and easy to live with. I know this because ML tells me todo el tiempo, all the time. I am CERTAIN that Rose thinks the same. No hace nada, it doesn't mean anything, that I steal Curly's food and jump on Rose when she has food. No! I am the perfect houseguest.

Pero donde estaba yo? But where was I? Oh si, our latest adventures in a place called Dingle.

Que triste, how sad, because I did not see much of Dingle this week because ML had to work. We were in a nice house with a nice lady named Marie and her daughter and their cat. Gracias a dios, thank goodness for the cat sharing her food or I would have starved. Que rico, how delicious is cat food? Why cannot dogs eat cat food all the time? It is not fair that cats get the best food.

Pero donde estaba yo? But where was I? Oh si, Marie and her daughter. They let me come into their big fireplace room and sniff and sniff and play. It was very nice. They are buenas personas, good people.

Then today we moved house AGAIN. Really, ML? I find a nirvana of a child to play with and cat food and you make me leave AGAIN? Pfft!

Oh, un momento, just a second...this new place is pretty good too. It has a garden just for me and ML says there is a Labrador named Pete and a chica, a girl dog, named Bones who I will get to meet. And there is a fireplace for me to lay in front of. Que bien! Pretty good job, ML!

The only thing I wasn't happy about was that a first ML made me lay on the floor. Ojala! As if! Si, si, she did bring in my bed from the car, but I do not want to be on the floor. I want to be on the sofa where dogs BELONG. "No, no, Carbon - we have to follow the owner lady's rules which say 'No dogs on the furniture'. It's only two nights - you'll survive."

No, no. No, I will not survive. I am a very sad gentleman dog.

Then a miracle happened. ML went to introduce herself to the MEAN HORRIBLE owner lady who does not allow dogs on the furniture. ML saw that the owner lady's dogs were on her own sofa and thought there may be hope. So when the owner lady asked if I was happy in the cottage, ML said, "Oh, he's having to get used to being on the floor and is a little grumpy, but he'll get over it." "Why is he on the floor?" asked the owner lady. "Because in your rules you say No Dogs on the Furniture, so we're following the rules." "I'm sure I didn't write THAT!" said the owner lady. "OF COURSE he can go on the sofa!".

So in fact she is NOT a mean horrible owner lady, she is a wonderful kind owner lady and I am now on the sofa with a pillow and getting nice and warm from the fire. Que milagro! What a miracle!

In addition to all those good things, ML went to the magical grocery place and bought me sweet potato and fish and vegetables and eggs and made me a HUGE dinner. I kid you not, my puppy belly is now so full that I am in a state of nirvana. Those are complicated words for a humble Spanish dog, but I take my food seriously and it deserves serious words.

We also stopped at the beach on the way home. That was fine. The food was better.

Here are some photos from my day.

Heading to the beach between the raindrops. Si, si: a boring scenery shot, but ML says I must include them for "context". Does "context" mean that you all get so bored that you appreciate the photos of me more when they finally come? Ojala! I hope so!

Pfft! More scenery.

Ah, this is mucho mejor, much better.

This is my "Cannot we go home for dinner now?" face

Adios to the sunshine...
IMG_4116.jpg

Here is the view out of our cottage window. Also this photo is for Cookie Man who does not understand how Ireland and the UK have separate taps for cold and hot water. ML says to tell you, "Here's proof!"

Our cosy living room, complete with piano. That is my bed from the car on the sofa.
IMG_4122.jpg

And finally me on my sofa and the fire. Thank you, nice owner lady for letting me be where I am soooo comfy!

That's all for tonight: buenas noches, mis amigos!

Wait, I’m confused. Don’t you drive in the Eurotunnel?
No, no driving in the Eurotunnel. You drive your car on to the train on one end, have a nice rest for 35 minutes while the train goes through the tunnel, then drive off the train at the other end and go directly on to the motorway. The video is while the train is going through the tunnel. You can get out of your car, but not much to see/do except for visit the WC. It's great, though - dog stays with you in the car and no seasickness. :D
