Short term use trumps risk of side effects if used sènsibly. Pre surgery for instance. If you already HAVE angina or have had a heart attack, which unless you have been very quiet on the subject doesn't apply, then it may still be appropriate.Ugh @Jacqui-S that is not good news for me, I get terrible stomach aches on ibuprofen, and did well on diclofenac and meloxicam... Now my second hip is starting to hurt, I'm not sure where that will lead me...
Tch, that's why they go into the profession! But now Karen's done with you, Jac, could you look at this rash?I promise never to abuse your advice as a doctor again

I have a short term prescription of meloxicam and a walking stick! ? I really hope it helps.Good luck!
Let us know if you have success or if you come home with Naproxen![]()
Skim reading is really not a good idea....got to the "walking stick" bit, then thought...hmm... better read it all again!!I have a short term prescription of meloxicam and a walking stick! ? I really hope it helps.

I used to take Naproxen when my knees were really bad . My GP prescribed a gastric protecting drug alongside it and had no issues. I've not bothered taking anything for my knees for around 5 years with no significant difference To lain levels, mobility etc.gut-rotting Naproxen
Oh my word that's awful, the poor love! And poor you, I bet your heart stops when you hear her scream. Terrible. Maybe it's a bit of loose cartilage or something that gets caught? That happens to me on occasions, and it is very painful.I've just got a referral for my right hip! Unfortunately I can't take most NSAIDs other than intermittently because of a bad allergic reaction to aspirin that shows up a bit in these drugs as well.
Back to Lady ….
She had a screaming collapse this morning when we were walking. Right elbow severe pain. Poor lamb. All very tricky as the cattle were coming through slowly. She really pulls at the heart when this happens as she looks at me with her leg held out for me to fix it and I can't. Massaged the joint and gave her a bit of physio. She managed to limp along very slowly with more massage and flexing of the elbow by me. I would have had to carry her if the cattle had got nearer. Lifted her over the stile then she gradually recovered. It's happened before and that's why we started the cartrophen. The vet reckoned it was most likely a bit of bone to bone contact when she was hooning. Didn't see what happened this morning but I think she jumped a ditch. Just as well I've got a vet appointment tomorrow. She's watching the world go by in the garden at the moment.
You could try naproxen combined with paracetamol. I've found it better than ibprofen. It's prescription only and I use a stomach protector with it. It's helped control my pain very well in n a daily basis.Sorry to hijack this thread but my arthritic hip is currently causing me untold pain and distress. Did your GP prescribe it Karen? I take ibuprofen and paracetamol but it doesn't touch the sides. I would dearly love a sprinkling of magic!
Yes I haven't tried that combo but I did do ibuprofen plus paracetamol after my knee and it did work well. The problem when I take NSAIDS is I get alarmingly out of breath so I need to be careful. You could try naproxen combined with paracetamol. I've found it better than ibprofen. Oh poor Hunter... I hope he continues to be pain free for a long time to come.Poor sweet Lady. I hope the vet finds something to help alleviate the pain. I know how heart wrenching it is when they are in pain and they want you to help them. Hunter is 11 months now and has had 2 operations for both his elbows. Reading your thread gives us hope that Hunter can hopefully have a few arthritis free years. His elbows will always be weak so he will be closely monitored all the time. He had stem therapy a few weeks ago....so hopefully the combination of supplements , the stem cells and home physio will help. We are staying positive as he now walks without a limp and is not scared to put weight on his front legs when he sits.
On the human side... I hope your are feeling better.
