Diarrhoea

Sorry about this subject but Red has had it since Monday night. She is fine in herself and I have still been feeding her as per normal plus Pro Kolin twice a day. She has cried out the last two nights and I have let her out.
Wondering if I should starve her for 24 hours? Or try her with just rice (she can’t have chicken as that upsets her). Not sure what to do.
Obviously if it persists then I will take her to the vets.
She had a lot of upset stomachs last year as a puppy but she has been relatively ok this year. Usually the Pro Kolin sorts it but doesn’t seem to be helping this time.

I always use deboned and deskined white fish boiled. I never use rice it didn't help Rory at all and just do tiny meals of fish throughout the day.sometimes just a few spoonfuls. I gradually mix in the kibble over a few days letting the fish juice soften it. I also put fish juice in the water to encourage drinking.

If sick over night, I usually starve for the day (no breakfast) and do 2 scrambled egg for the evening meal and see how she does that night. I stopped with rice also because it didn't seem to help. If she's ok overnight, I do eggs and add bit of white meat (either boiled chicken or fish) and then slowly re-introduce kibble over a couple of meals.

Thank you for your advice everyone. I am still wavering over starvation or just a small amount of rice and no kibble at tea time. She has Hills i/d in her kongs so I will probably continue those - I just can’t seem to decide what’s best. If she is still having diarrhoea tomorrow I will take her to the vets. She is quite sleepy today so I think it is affecting her whereas the past few days she has been her usual self.

All of you people starving your Labradors!

How do you live with the big brown eyes boring into your soul?! And the lakes of drool?!

I've used chicken and rice but not for a long time, thankfully. I've never starved them, except for that time Shadow ate three times his body weight in stolen kibble. :tmi:

Hope Red is feeling better soon.

I normally only starve for sickness. With the trots I just give him chicken and rice for a couple of days with some of those sachets from the vets and it’s clears up in no time x

Well I gave her rice with some shredded cooked turkey for tea. She wolfed it down. I have just taken her for her usual walk with some turkey in my right hand in case we needed to do some A to B. She knew I had turkey in my hand and was fixated on it the whole way to the point a ginger cat literally walked right in front of her and she ignored it ?. Whilst out she had an almost normalish poo ? for the first time since Monday. Anymore diarrhoea and we will be at the vets tomorrow.

I usually only starve for vomiting. I feed white fish by choice mixed with cooked pasta rather than rice at the suggestion of our vet in May. Just as well as I had to do a fair amount of hand feeding with Royal Canin vet food added - yuk!! As it's a couple of days and Red's not herself I would check with the vet - just to err on the side of caution.
