Black spots

I’m 99% sure it’s just normal pigmentation changes... but has anyone else noticed increased freckles on their dog’s testicles? Merlin’s were pink as a puppy, then he got a couple of dark freckles, and these seem to be spreading, but otherwise his balls look completely healthy and normal. Next time we go to the vet I’ll ask her to take a look, but thought I’d check on here too...

Obi’s balls are long gone but I’ve noticed that other areas of his skin (eg. tummy) have become more darkly pigmented as he’s got older.

Does he lick them a lot? Licking can cause changes in pigmentation. Snowie’s balls are covered mostly in hair so I don’t pay much attention to the skin colour. But his tummy has a lot of pigmentation changes from licking due to itchiness.

Sorry can't help Fred's balls are black. I do know though that dogs do get black freckles on them, sometimes in their mouths. You could ring the vet

and ask them

Kipper has one large dark freckle and a few small ones on his balls. They’ve darkened as he’s got older but I haven’t noticed more.

Shadow's balls vary in shade from day to day it seems! Right now, they're quite dark and freckled. At other times, they are pinker. He rarely licks them, so it's not that... or maybe it is, and they're just dirty

You could ring the vet and ask them

Nah, they'll just say 'bring him in so we can have a look', then they'll check them over, say all looks ok but will nonetheless sell me some homeopathic nonsense and some vitamins just to be sure, and charge me 50 Euro. \

I regularly feel Snowie’s balls for changes. So far, so good! Thankfully!

I think it's natural for skin tone to change in line with age, seasons, moulting. I would only be concerned with any texture changes, roughened areas, itching etc.

They actually look lovely (yes, I know...), and the freckles are just special I think. No rough areas or itching, and while he does love to clean them enthusiastically, I think this is within normal limits. I just never noticed this on my other male dogs - but then Billy and Bones were chocolate and black, so maybe it just passed me by.
