Broken nail

Last night , Reuben was limping very slightly on his front right leg , so slightly that only I noticed it . This morning I only took him for ten minutes but again the very slight sporadic limp . Have just found the culprit , a nail on the paw of that leg is split right at the tip, he has been licking it like mad . So , shall I try to snip it off myself ( he lets me do anything ) or is it a Vet job do you think ? Its like a split right at the end x

You might have caught the quick if you had done it. I clipped Rourke's dew claws at 12.30 last night (mad or what!) and cut the quick of the second one and it bled like mad, blood everywhere, I had visions of phoning emergency vet miles away! In the end I bound it tightly in the hope it would stop the bleeding, it did!

For once I was so pleased with my confident happy go lucky boy , he went off good as gold and came back to the car wagging his tail . The service from our Vet is amazingly good, but then we have been using them for 35 years ( minus the time spent in France ) x
The lad himself couldnt care less , currently tucking in to meat and two veg x

Nails ick me out, so for me it would definitely be a vet trip 😅 hope he’s feeling much better afterwards:)
Nails are the one thing I can't deal with too! Blood, vomit, and other bodily fluids etc. all fine, not exactly pleasant but I can cope with no problem. Nails though....Aggghhh! Isn't it strange?
Perhaps a bit like @Emily_Babbelhund and multiple trees?!

I can’t do nails. It’s the thought that I will mess up and hurt him inadvertently. Plus I am always wary pushing Simba too far in terms of handling him, given the issues he had with being handled when we first got him.

What worried me about doing it myself was that I could make it far worse by hitting the quick again . He had already ripped half the nail to the quick , and truly I would never forgive myself if I caused him more pain . He is absolutely fine now, not licking it or bothering it at all . I did have to see the irony in that my sister sent me £50 for my birthday ,now spent on my dog , but I dont care xx
