Bit worried about Poppy

Poor Pops had a choking/coughing fit this morning, that had me worried enough to be on the doorstep at the vet's when they opened at 08:00... Vet's first thought was that she might have been stung in the throat by a wasp, but there was no sight of a sting... It seems like she may have laryngitis, and the vet gave her a cortisone injection, and antibiotics to treat the infection. Poor little love, she is feeling very sorry for herself. :(

Poor thing.
I remember Lilly had a funny coughing thing not long before one of our holidays and we wondered if she was developing kennel cough. She didn't but had a chokey-cough on and off for a couple of days then it went.
I hope she is okay Karen, and no other consequences.

Oh poor Poppy, that’s pretty distressing for you- how quick thinking to get a video. Hope the injection clears things up x
I wasn't completely sure whether she was having a fit or not... and this coughing/gasping/choking went on for several minutes.

As is so often the way, there is in retrospect a funny side to all this... I called the vet and told them I had a bit of an emergency; that Poppy was having trouble breathing. The vet was just about to go into surgery, but as I only live a couple of minutes away she told me to bring her straight in. Naturally, as soon as we got in the car she was fine and breathing normally, and she trotted into the vets looking the picture of health, past the poor Great Dane who was waiting to be operated on... I was extremely thankful I had thought to take the video clip so I could explain why I had been so worried!

This must be such a common scenario for vets! (And doctors, and mechanics, and plumbers, etc etc) Completely sympathise with the relief of having evidence :) And sooo much better to have it that way round than a fast downhill. Hoping Poppy’s recovery continues swiftly bless her x

Poor Poppy, hope she's better soon.

(In the days before we filmed stuff on our phones I recorded my then baby son barking like a seal. When we got to GP he wasn't "barking" so GP dismissed me but when I played the recording he diagnosed croup. Never heard anything like it before.)

That looks very much like something that Willow does once in a blue moon. I always thought of it as what people call "reverse sneezing". It upsets her at the time, she seems to be having difficulty catching her breath and it sounds just like that. It can last a couple of minutes and then she's fine afterwards. I rub her tummy and throat if it happens. I have no idea if it helps, but she seems to appreciate the touch anyway.
