Toffee's Eyes

Location

Poor Toffee woke up this morning with a swollen bright red eye, he’s obviously in some discomfort and is a very miserable little boy :'( .
The vet I normally use have no vets available to see him, they referred me to somewhere with a specialist eye vet but they’re not in this week, so we’ve now got an appointment at a Great Yarmouth vet this afternoon.
It seems there is a shortage of vets in this area, which is a bit worrying.

I do hope they resolve this quickly, he is having difficulty in seeing and is so unlike his normal happy self - it’s hurting me to see him like this ☹.

Poor Toffee, and poor you @SteffiS - eyes always seem particularly worrying, although hopefully it'll be a straightforward dose of drops or similar.
Keeping all crossed for this afternoon's appointment and you never know, you may have found a back-up vet for the future.

Poor Toffee, hope you can get any drops in ok.
Our vets has stopped taking any new animal on for the moment as it can't get enough vet cover
Edit - I can't get a laser and hydro appointment on the same day until 6 September

So sorry. Poor Toffee. And so upsetting and frustrating that the vet eye specialist wasn’t available. My experience has been that with eye problems, go straight to the specialist. Snowie had three visits to our regular vet. Eye didn’t heal. One visit to the specialist and she knew exactly what he needed. Eye fixed after the procedure she performed (scary corneal abrasion that she performed with just a local anaesthetic!).

Please let us know how Toffee is. If you need to administer drops, ask them for the gel equivalent—much easier to insert into the eye cos you smear it on the inside of the bottom eyelid with your fingertip.

I hope Toffee's eye is responding to treatment. Re shortage of vets, my practice cannot find a new vet anywhere and when I was at the hairdresser I overheard a worrying and concerning conversation about this customer needing an emergency vet and there was no one! Unheard of not to provide 24 hour care, though I hate this new American idea that our own vets work a '9 - 5' job and an Emergency Vet practice take over night and weekend cover at an expensive rate!

I'm still reeling from 3 hours at the vet, most of it just waiting, a £250 bill, and then being told they're not really sure what is wrong with him :hmm: .
We have 3 lots of medicine and the suggestion of a referral to somewhere near Ipswich if he doesn't respond to these. I'm not impressed with them at all.

Oh poor Toffee, that right eye in particular looks so sore. And like you, I'd not be at all happy with that explanation. What are the medicines supposed to be treating, I assume one is an antibiotic? Don't suppose he has been swimming in any yucky ponds?
And he's going grey, he's only a baby still! 🤗
