She's a teenager - need I say more?
Today we were doing so well and she even recalled half way to investigating the rabbit warren in the water meadow behind the station. It's important that she doesn't investigate the warren because just on the other side of it is a spring that amounts to deep black mud and green goo. In the short time she's been with us she has changed colour more than once.
That was this morning. This afternoon we took her to Standen NT garden with our granddaughter, Lily-Rose aged 4. There's a nice woodland walk where dogs can be off lead. Through the gate into the woods. Nobody around so let off the Poppy pup and I kid you not she's gone and deaf! Off I rush at a 72 year olds top speed of a fast walk and spot her on the skyline about 200 yds away having a pooh in an empty field having gone under a gate. Phew! No cattle or sheep so chalk that up to we got away with that. Recall now red hot of course. Comes back at top speed and straight as an arrow. OH says "Did you pick up the pooh?"
I mean, for goodness sake she was 200 yards away in long grass. The chances of finding it about zero.
Anyway we continue and she has a lovely time playing in little stream although she comes out covered in mud. I'm by now, of course, right on her case and looking out for snags approaching along the path. By snags I mean other people and possibly other dogs. Just as I'm relaxing into it out pop a couple from goodness knows where, right in front of us. Sigh of relief when Poppy just looks up at them keeping all four paws on the ground ...... and then she has a really good shake!
My profuse apologies didn't quite cut it I'm afraid. I beetle off up the path mainly to get away from OH who I can tell is about to explain something to me. Turns out this was a good thing as OH could pretend she didn't know me.
And so to the café for tea and a scone. OH buying the tea while I'm outside with Poppy bagging a table. I move my chair and trap my finger in the mechanism when I sit down. Extreme pain (Iit's not funny!) and blood everywhere. OH and staff rally round with sticking plasters and stuff.
Where's Poppy?
Inside the café being restrained from attacking the cake counter by another customer!
I'm quite tired now and going for a little rest.
