Sore mouth?

Just got back from a lovely warm holiday in California...which is great as it’s snowing here at the moment. Very early even for here in the Great White North. :(

Anyhoo Simba greeted me with so much excitement and joy, bless him. We went for a walk and enjoyed a little ramble around the neighbourhood. He did his usual pick up of tasty treats/aka garbage and he got his usual big crunchie for a reward for a nice “leave it”. He also snaffed a small bone, part of a steak or pork chop or something like that. No way he will drop it...he crunched it up with no difficulty and then we were home.

Couple hours later OH comes home and gives him a cuddle and realizes he needs a good brushing. Afterwards he gives him a couple of the big crunches as a treat for being good. Simba takes them but then spits them out. Which he NEVER does. I tried to give him one...same thing. Hmm. It was just about time for supper so I gave him his usual kibble, thinking that if refuses that there is definitely something wrong. He ate it fine, but maybe a little more slowly.
I looked in his mouth but I couldn’t see much...I’m theorizing that somehow he hurt his mouth/a tooth on the bone. :(

I’ll try to get a better look tomorrow. It’s tricky...I have got him to the point where I can brush his teeth with no trouble but given his history of not liking being handled I feel a little trepidatious of looking in his mouth so not sure how much I’ll be able to see.

He doesn’t love vet exams either. Sigh. I’ll see how he is the next day or so ...maybe I’ll soak the kibble tomorrow AM for brekkie.

Hopefully it's just a little scrape, and not a piece of bone fragment. Xena snaffles up the odd cooked chicken bone or chop bone (people are animals, rubbish everywhere) and *touch wood* we've never had any issues.

Pooch ate breakfast with no problem...I gave him just a little bit first which he wolfed down and looked a bit offended at his bowl so I gave him the rest. He is taking his individual kibble as treats with no problem. I gave his teeth a gentle brush which he tolerated fine. I’ll hold off on giving him the big crunchies for a couple of days. But so far he seems just fine.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) high will be 6 C. It’s unseasonably cold. Southern Alberta has been completely dumped on...they got as much in 48 hours as they usually get in the whole month of October. Usually our first snow lands around Halloween. We’re a month early. Yippee.
Here we got about 1/2 inch. It will melt but there is more predicted this weekend |(

Crikey! That is cold! I've only seen snow a couple of times so it would be a novelty...for a short while. Next Christmas (2019) we plan a trip to Europe and I checked the temps in Paris at Christmas. Same as you now - max 6 degrees. I worry that I won't cope as I've never experienced that sort of cold but I'm sure if I rug-up I will be ok.

I hope some warmer weather comes back before winter really hits @Lisa :cold:
