Little Ted had his first lead walk in the Outside World this morning. He was really good, not too bold but not too scared either. I thought he’d be a lead biter but, no - he was so interested in everything he didn’t even notice the lead.

People who say ‘practice in the house and garden’ are wrong. In the house the lead is the interesting thing and bad habits can easily be learned which are hard to unlearn. My tip for the day - have your first lead walks somewhere unfamiliar to the pup.

We’ll have another after lunch, weather permitting, and I’ll take photos.

Ahh! You're still doing Puppy Time, which is different from Normal Time, which is why morning feels like dinner time. Puppy Time starts much earlier than Normal Time!

I remember it as if it was yesterday! How can it be five years ago?!

Here I am on my second lead walk, I like going out but I’m not sure about the big growly things called ‘cars’.

It’s pouring down, Boogie takes Ted outside for wee wees. Stands under umbrella while pup gets very soggy. No wee. Boogie gives up, soggy doggy promptly wees on the floor.



I don’t blame him - I wouldn’t used the ‘outside facilities’ in this weather either. In general he's doing really well with his toilet training. And accidents are tiny little puddles, unlike the lakes Spencer used to treat us to!

It was a wet June when Cass was tiny -- I still have a vivid picture in my mind of her taking refuge under the garden table, sitting looking at me as I hovered on the doorstep in my pyjamas!

Golly, I remember those icy mornings in January standing in bare feet on frozen grass at 4 in the morning with little Kipper bouncing round his outside pen asking for a game... and me enthusiastically whispering 'puddles! puddles!'

I love the proportions of the toys in the toy bin compared to Ted. If he crawled in there for his nap, he'd blend in with the stuffies!

He doesn’t understand Tatze’s ‘stop now’ signals so I put an end to the game. He’ll soon learn.

Tatze gives very clear 'stop now ' signals doesn't she? Presumably due to years of practice. I'm sure Ted will soon learn them, but it's good that you're there to step in until he can work it out for himself!
