Hard decision

Well, it was an incredibly hard decision but I’ve decided to neuter Hugo. I went back and forth so many times but ultimately I believe it is the best decision for him (he’s 22 months old now). Majority of dogs are fixed here so I think it will just be easier for him in a lot of aspects.

I’ve dropped him off two hours ago and I will be sitting here as a big ball of nerves until I hear from the vet that he’s out of surgery. :'(

Awww, that's always a tough one. He'll be fine, and he won't even miss them! He'll be uncomfortable for a couple of days and then back to normal.

One small word of warning - Merlin has become far, far greedier since being neutered and we have to be so very careful with his food as he put on several kilos in weight even though we had reduced his rations. Apparently they need about 25% fewer calories for the same level of activity, once neutered. We have slowly over several months managed to get him back to his normal weight, but it is a daily struggle not to give in to him.

It is a tough decision for sure , one that only us can make after weighing up all the Pros and Cons , its a case of doing what is right based on information we have gleaned . I had Reuben castrated aged 2 and a half , and honestly, for him it was the best thing I could have done for our lad . Hugo will bounce back , soon home with you for a much needed cuddle xx

Yes exactly, what may work best for one won’t at all for another. I’m bummed at the moment but that’s ok, long term I know it was best for him, and me too really

I am worried weight gain and food! Hugo really isn’t a foodie, he hinted for breakfast once this morning and that was it, otherwise just cuddled until we left. So I’m hoping that stays the same, but he is very easy to gain weight so I’ll have to be very mindful with calories for him!

You made a good decision for Hugo and he is now home safe with you. I had my three dogs castrated and non of them ever put on any weight. If you see him beginning to look fatter, just reduce his food a little, I am sure all will be well

Really wasn’t easy, but least now it is done and I can move forward 🙂
Hey, you’ve done the right thing for you and Hugo and that’s all that matters! Like you say, all done and onwards. Big hugs for that gorgeous boy, you’ll be picking him up about now :inlove:
