Obviously it’s saturday. They close at 5pm - the vet thinks because it’s an idea to take him home tonight and see whether his stomach settles more at home. OH is massively against this plan believing that he will relapse the second we get him home. I’m all for bringing him home for 24 hours (won’t be till tonight)
Alternatively he can stay the weekend (no discharges on a Sunday) with the emergency care team BUT obviously this is £300 a night and potentially that’s insurance money that we might need for the hospital?
I'd get him home. Unlike a human, the dog will not understand why he is in a strange place. He will always be happier at home, much more likely to settle, and (if the condition is partly stress related) just being in a home environment is probably better for him. I sympathise with OH's fears, but really being at home might be best for Mas.
But I'd get very clear instructions from vet on what to look out for and a back up plan to get him straight back to specialist care if needed.
Of course I suppose this means OH and you'll get no sleep tonight because of worrying and watching him...but on the whole maybe best option?
Can you take him back at any point if he gets unwell?
I would bring him home but my vet is an emergency vet so you can take them 24 hours a day and it’s about a 5 minute drive so I’d know I could get him back if I needed to.
Definitely I’d bring him home. You’re more likely to keep a watchful eye on him than night staff at an animal hospital. And Mas will be happier in his own home with his own people.
Yep, I agree with the others. He'll be a lot more settled at home, you'll be keeping an eagle eye on him and will be able to get him back immediately if he deteriorates. Stress doesn't help recovery.
OH's shows huge levels of misplaced guilt.
He feels totally responsible and frightened.
You both need to rebuild confidence.
These things happen.
Mas looks a lot better than I expected.
Poor lamb , but honestly , once he is well again , condition and weight will come back I promise . When Sam was first ill, he looked shocking to the point that I felt guilty taking him out , they bounce back and he has youth on his side x
I think I’d bring him home too and I maybe try and make a little pen area for him - not as restrictive as the crate but still a safe area for him and damage control in case of poos!
